chuuu~ 💌💋
I was going back thru chats in Ray's after ending and the strawberry cake dream sequence kinda has me obsessed--its so short but adorably lighthearted. And he thinks he can tease about eating the cake with no hands? alright then, get what you ask for. 💥🍰 (Saeran's laughs are precious i would totally do something stupid to make him laugh more)
Have you gotten everything you ever wanted?
No. But once I got very close
My conflicting feelings for Saeran Choi
Saeran is the most popular choice in the mystic messenger fandom besides his twin brother and the mascot of the game Seven and I can see why he is so popular. He is relatable to many as a large portion of this fandom is neurodivergent and that tends to make life hard and are prone to get more traumatised in life and seeing someone as broken as he is getting a chance at life feels good. He is also quite a well written villain in the Original Story who keeps the player on their toes and adds much to the excitement in the game and he has one of the best designs in the game.
But for me personally, I havent had much interest towards him in almost five years of being in this fandom- although I did make a fanart of him once and I do love to ship him with my favourite guy Yoosung at times since I am quite a sucker for the grumpy x sunshine trope (except when its in the context of Yoosung's bad ending 3 since that ending canonically has non-con elements and most of the time works related to that ending often involves Saeran sexually assaulting Yoosung over and over). I have overall been quite ambivalent to his existence, solely focusing on Yoosung for the most part.
But my ambivalence eventually grew into dislike towards him because Mysme fans often tend to justify his abusive actions towards MC and the RFA members because he is mentally ill and has led a painful life- putting all the blame onto Rika for his actions. And while Rika did play a huge part in shaping Saeran into the person he is, by raising him to be a weapon, Saeran isnt a man with no autonomy, he has made the conscious decision to injure yoosung in his good/normal ending, to kidnap and torture yoosung in bad ending 3, to torture Jihyun, and other RFA members in several endings. I think taking away his agency and assuming that he himself isnt capable of malice without Rika's influence feels quite infantilising.
It also doesnt help the fact that other characters in the fandom such as Yoosung for instance get a ton of backlash for comparitively minor errors he made (especially given that he was not malicious and he has valid reasons behind his gripe with Jihyun) by the fandom while characters who have done worse actions- Saeran for instance get scot free and as previously mentioned are rather justified because his trauma is "worse" makes me loathe him even more. Not to mention the fact that in Yoosung route you have to actively discourage him to not see MC as a "replacement for Rika" and he eventually takes accountability for his actions and corrects himself long before the Good Ending. Whereas for Saeran you have to actually tolerate some of his abusive actions to reach the good ending which is the only place he eventually learns to get a hold on himself and reflect.
Perhaps Saeran is just easier to romanticise than Yoosung- Yoosung is alot more realistic and realism can get quite uncomfortable.
I am also a firm believer of the fact that if Saeran wasnt a man, he would have not been as well liked in the fandom. Some Saeran fans might argue with me saying that they "love the idea of a female Saeran Choi" but it is quite a common occurence in majority of fandom spaces where female characters get more scrutiny for their actions and people love to push the whole "traumatic past does not justify hurting others for them" rhetoric whilst its all crickets for equally awful male characters. And this happens in mystic messenger fandom as well.
Another aspect which makes me loathe Saeran is because I unfortunately see myself in him to an extent. As a person with BPD (which I believe Saeran and several other characters in Mystic Messenger have as well) I find myself heavily reasonating with his extreme fear of abandonment- sure I despise such people threatening to kill themself when they feel theyd be abandoned (which is another reason I despise Saeran) the thought itself feels like a death sentence,
reading his texts feels like someone is reading my own thoughts out in the open and thats where it gets conflicting. Despite how much I loathe him, I have a soft spot for him and I despise the notion that he can never live a happier life. I dont do well with defeatist rhetorics and so I perhaps might forever carry mixed feelings for Saeran
It’s so telling of his character that for most of Saeran’s AE they had to keep Saeyoung sedated so he wouldn’t plot to escape or go feral at the things Rika and V were doing
Even his boss wouldn’t let him near chopsticks and keep him handcuffed at all times.. he was a force to be reckoned with all the time and I love to see it
Rika has feelings for Saeran in his AE? Disgusting. That really made me puke.
We must keep him away from that woman at all costs when she gets out of jail. However, I don't think she'll be released soon. Just rot there forever 😏
🎀 Oh, my love, what? Nonono wait, I think there's a misunderstanding!
(Ray AE spoliers!)
Rika does not have feelings for Saeran!
Oh, I can't deny I get the chills as well when she's so fixated on Saeran, especially in the AE where she's just stepping over the line due to her paranoia of him changing into a different person.
But the thing about the After Ending that just make V & Rika another threat is her wanting Saeran so badly to have a family of her own. She's seeking the told times at the cathedral with him where no Mint Eyes existed yet.
Rika wants Saeran & Saeyoung as her sons!
In the visual novel where she hits him after coming to the house, she demands Ray back. She wants the boy who's dependent on her and needs her guidance to have any worth in himself. But once she realizes that Saeran changed and therefore Ray did as well; she's having her family picture shattered into pieces.
In the Ray's Sad After Ending 4, where she gets them both to stay at the house, she's completey delusional and puts them under drugs so they cannot plot anything to leave the house. Because she needs a family now, she wants happiness but she does it by exploiting & trapping the boys..
If she has feelings for V is debatable depsite them going back together, but she's not having feelings for Saeran in any romantic way;;;; She sees him as a son, and that's the same with Saeyoung...
Someone get the twins out of there already before I commit arson on V's house :(( 🎀
I didn't finish Ray AE yet because I was pissed off with how many times I got the BEs lmao but my friend said there's a bad ending where Saeran became an idol????? Like WHAT THE HELL is that??? 😭🤚🏻 Skjshshshshd I'm sorry Saeran but-
😭 but you????? An IDOL ?????? Really Cheritz??? 😭🤌🏻 So he just jumped from a religious cult to an idol in mere days and I just- 😭🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻 *wheezing*
Cheritz, please. I already hate how the storyplot of the AE turned out, with the OOC Saeran and everything but a fricking idol had me wheezing 😭😭😭😭
BUT--!!!!!
The CGs is so good, so I gave you an extra star LMAOOOO but really an idol is really out of nowhere 😭😭🤌🏻
So he's just look like him???
Redraw of that one heartbreakingly beautiful CG ): the ending is so messed up
