Movie Review | The Beauties and the Beast (Nadeau, 1974)

While the danger of Bigfoot is always present when you are in the forest, this movie presents some actual villains in the form of a dastardly Quebecois and his non-Quebecois associate. It's an important distinction because while Bigfoot is capable of violence, he is essentially guileless in his application. When he sees nude women, he brings them to his cave but looks after them. He runs his hand over one's breast in curiosity, but he does not harm them. He does not lay pipe. (For that, you'll have to watch The Geek.) He is not guilty of the sins of man. He is not capable of man's evil.

Anyway, this is Bigfoot movie that's also a softcore movie that also turns into roughie-tinged crime thriller, but is not assembled with anything resembling urgency. You may recognize some of the cast members if you're sufficiently interested in smut from this era. I watched it for Uschi Digard, who in one of the film's highlights is frightened by a mouse. Aside from that, there's a sex scene interrupted by a rubber duck, and a cowgirl dream sequence. But I'm afraid this isn't a good showcase for any of its cast members. Perhaps the visual qualities of the nude women and the wilderness footage are easier to appreciate in a decent transfer, but the one I watched looked as if it had been dropped in a swamp.
