it is unhinged that gmmtv had the alcoholic whose destructive drinking was a major plot point and hurdle in the original series become a craft beer developer all for the sake of product placement. absolutely unhinged.

to clarify, because i got multiple comments about it:
the filming of the sunray craft beer scene oozed soft launch of sunray merch, be it as far as a real collab with a beer company or just the bottles or other merch with the sunray logo. the way the logo was facing the camera at all times, how the characters commented on how good it tasted, and the fact that the scene wasted time that could have progressed the story.
did we not understand that sand and ray are happy and thriving from their scene in ep1 and them regularly hosting pop-up concerts? if the creative team didn't think the answer was yes, i'm baffled.
there was no (other) product placement that i'm aware of in either season of only friends and i genuinely would love to be proven wrong about my merch suspicions.
however if it's not merch, then gmmtv included an alcoholic developing craft beer for shits and giggles and that's not much better
i also made the original post at 3am so i take full accountability for the lack of research and reliance on vibes. that sounds sarcastic but it's not.
