Friday night out to celebrate the week. Adam and I decided to go out in the city since it is NYC Restaurant Week and convenient for me after work. We had talked previously about trying Peruvian food before we go to Peru so we have something to compare it to. Raymi is the only restaurant on Open Table that came up under Peruvian food search and they were participating in Restaurant Week. The menu looked delicious so we decided on going there despite the 9:45 reservation time. Pisco Sours at the bar to start. One regular, one passion fruit flavored. I love pisco sour. It's made with egg white and lemon juice and is just the right amount of sweet and sour. This is THE drink of Peru and definitely you will see many photos of these in the coming weeks! The most famous dish of Peru is Ceviche--raw fish seasoned with lime, onions, and chili peppers. As they served it she said "the chef recommends you eat it with a spoon" to soak up all of the delicious juice with the fish. The ceviche was great, its light but filling, however this one was extremely spicy for my tastes. Filled with habeneros. Still, I couldn't stop eating it. (Pictured above) For a 2nd app we had the octopus, as I had read that this was recommended at Raymi. I have had Pulpo in the past but not been thrilled about it. The octopus here was fantastic. I'm not sure what was in the sauce but it was creamy and wonderful. I could have eaten a large portion of that for dinner. Entrees were good. Lomo Saltado was delish, very salty but it was meant to be as it is cooked in soy sauce and topped with French fries. I definitely had the better meal. Adam ordered Arroz Chaufa which is Peruvian Chinese food-something Peru is also famous for. I think it would have been really good but I don't like broccoli, ginger, or peanuts which were all key ingredients in the rice. I added some of my soy sauce to the rice and it was tastier that way. Desserts were on point. (Both pictured above.) Rice pudding had all sorts of additions and was creamy and perfect. I preferred the quinoa brownie because I felt that since it was quinoa its healthier. Accompanied by banana ice cream and fried plantain. Yum. Recounting this meal has me so hungry and so ready for Peru in 3 WEEKS!
