My design for Ratha, updated ref/design.

I wanted to incorporate that edgy form Ratha has (wings of ruin form??). With the lore basis of that the razewing/ruin wings power was killing Ratha, I wanted to show it semi taking over his body somewhat. E.g. the grey taking over the red, and all the pink/purple on him. The bright pink/purple 'flames' on his wings have a fire effect and flare off of him as he flies, if he flies fast he looks like a pink+blue comet. All the pink gaps within his scales is where the power has moved his scales, the power barely being contained within his body.

Though the power has stopped taking him over now, the changes still remain. I'd like to think the first ref I made for Ratha was what he looked like before it started to take him over.

Oh look it's Razewing Ratha!... or is it?

Commission work in the style of Monster Hunter Stories 2, featuring my elder dragon Rathalos hehe. I used an in-game screen cap for the background of the first image here, as suggested by the client. It was a fun experiment!

Wip of new Ratha design

Just a sketch with some messy colour. Will be doing lineart and proper colour at some point but wanted to share.

I wanted to incorporate that edgy form Ratha has. With the lore basis of that the razewing power was killing Ratha, I wanted to show it semi taking over his body somewhat. E.g. the grey taking over the red, and all the pink/purple on him. I basically traced over the first ref I did as well as the forwards facing drawing from one of my other drawings lol, I was being lazy.

speedpaint of the sketch and lazy colour under ref, as well as the refs/moodboard I made to help myself with this design. All under the cut.

As mentioned will be doing lineart and proper colour at some point, idk how long it will take me though. Has anyone else done a design like this before? I'm curious, e.g. where the darker Ratha is more present in the design. Also did that greyscale/pink design ever have a name?

people really liked my mod for Lotus’s ratha! unfortunately im not really comfortable with giving it out publicly since it is a personal design specifically made for him… however! i ended up tinkering a bit and made a public use ratha! it can be downloaded below- the design itself is ftu also :]

(if you know what the wing markings are referencing you get a kiss on the cheek from me btw)
