Hi!💕 I noticed that you write for Cal and, if you’d like to, could you write something with these? I think it could be really cute 🥰 BUT only if you want to! Three might’ve been too much. 🤪
" no. no way, no way in hell am i doing that. no! no... aw, fine... "
" only YOU could convince me to do something like this! "
" admit it. you had FUN today! "
Hi there! Three is not too much, not for these anyway, they all go so perfectly together and I had a lot of fun writing this one! ☺️

"Only YOU could convince me to do something like this!"
Wind swirled around you, ruffling your hair and stinging your nose, reminding you of just how precarious a position you'd gotten yourself in. You shouted the words after him, the brave but reckless redhead you'd come to be friends with, balancing just a short ways on the fallen tree branch in front of you. He only acknowledged what you'd said by throwing a mischevious smile back at you. And then he was off, practically skipping across the branch as if he'd done it a hundred times before. To be fair, he probably had. You got the impression your new friend enjoyed testing his own mortality.
You gulped as you inched along after him, wishing you didn't have to look down, but needing to make sure your foot placements along the narrowing tree branch were just-so. One little misstep and you'd go tumbling down into that craggy crevice. Just the thought of it was making you waver.
"Hey, look at you! Just a few steps more! You got it!"
Cal was already standing on the ground on the other side, his hand held out for you to take when you got close enough. As if that would help. But the look of encouragement - and excitement - that he had was enough to put some of your fears at bay. You gulped once more and took your few last steps.
"There you go, there you go..." Cal encouraged you on with a grin.
You grabbed hold of his hand as soon as you could and let him pull you the last of the way, joining him on the opposite side with a relieved sigh, and not very much room between the two of you.
"You did it! That wasn't so bad, right?" the ginger grinned down at you, oblivious to how close you were standing. You would've stepped back to restore the proper amount of space your friendship necessitated, had you not been closed in by the scary fissure you'd just crossed.
"That was terrifying," you corrected him with a grimace. Cal only chuckled, and then finally stepped away from you, turning to embrace the wind and the sun and the gorgeous view he'd insisted would make the risky journey worth it.
And you had to admit, he was right.
There was rolling, glittering ocean as far as the eye could see in either direction. Of course, you could've admired the sight from the designated viewports anywhere along the coastline, but this little peninsula Cal had found provided a panoramic view unlike any other. No intrusive buildings or roads or people. Just never-ending water and sky. You took in a deep breath, enjoying the peace such a place brought, a happy reprieve from the darker parts of the galaxy.
"Beautiful, right?" Cal sighed next to you. You'd never seen him so calm and content. It made you even happier; your friend could be so stressed these days, and you knew there was lingering tragedy from his past that he didn't like to talk about. You'd suspected all the risk-taking he did was his way of coping, distracting himself from having to feel anything other than adrenaline. But perhaps it was simply to find something sweeter, knowing the grass would be greener on the other side, and not being afraid to find his way to that side. Just as he had in crossing over that fallen tree to this place. This perfect little secluded place.
"I've always loved the water," you offered in response to his question. Something was compelling you to be more open with him in this moment, show him parts of yourself that you'd kept closed off for a while. Maybe he'd return the favor and be vulnerable, too. "I used to swim every summer with my family. I'd go under and hold my breath as long as I could, and I'd look up at the surface above me and just watch the reflection of the sky, and it would look like a completely different world up there."
Cal was listening intently, but a few moments after you'd finished your reminiscing, he got another mischevious smile that made you nervous again.
"What?" you warily asked.
His smile only got wider as he creeped closer to the edge of the cliff. Your heart would have sunk at the implication, only he started shrugging off his vest and undoing some of the buttons on his shirt, and instead your heart nearly leapt into your throat.
"Oh nothing..." he said, feigning innocence. "Just glad to hear you like to swim."
Your mind was racing now, and you were grateful that your cheeks were already stung pink from the wind so the blush you now wore wouldn't stand out. Cal was bare from the waist up, and he was right on the cliff's edge, holding another hand out for you to follow him into uncertainty yet again. You didn't know which emotion to focus on; you seemed to be feeling all of them.
"Come on," he jerked his head toward the water, his grin never faltering. "It'll be fun."
"No." You finally found your voice and your arms instinctually wrapped around yourself. "No way. No way in hell am I doing that."
"You said you liked the water," Cal was laughing through your babbling. He skipped over to you and grabbed your hands, pulling you after him.
"No!" you protested, though your efforts were half-hearted. Cal and his bare skin were too close for you to really stop yourself from following. You stood alongside him at the edge, peering cautiously down at the ocean that seemed a million miles away. But the sun was warm on your face, and the water rippled in welcome, just as it always had for you. And you knew, sinking though the feeling was, that if Cal got you to balance across a tree branch to get here, he'd find a way to get you in that water, too.
"Aw, fine..." you relented with a huff. You quickly threw off your own jacket and shirt, not giving yourself time to think about it anymore. Cal seemed pleased, not smug, which helped your sudden confidence stay high enough to follow through with this crazy plan. He held out a hand but you were already jumping forward.
One moment you were falling through the blue sky, breath held in anxious anticipation, hair fluttering from the weightlessness and heart hammering as forcefully as you'd ever felt.
And then the next moment you were submerged by a different kind of blue, your fears instantly dissipating as you were embraced by the old and familiar feeling of the sea. You sunk quite far down from the height of your jump, but you didn't fight to return to the surface. Not just yet. Instead, you stayed down below, looking up at the ripples above, dramatically sloshing about from your fall, and probably Cal's by this point. Just as they started to calm, and you could better make out the sky, you finally pushed yourself upward to meet it.
You broke the surface with a pleasant gasp. Cal was treading water nearby, laughing at your sudden change in demeanor. You wiped the hair from your eyes as you swam toward him.
"See? No need to be a scaredy cat," he teased.
You slapped your hand on the water in front of him, causing a little wave to spring up into his face. He pretended to be offended, and then promptly sent a splash back at you. You laughed for the first time that day.
The only indication of how long you spent in that little alcove of the ocean, playing and swimming and giggling, was the sun moving ever closer to the horizon. As soon as your energy started to dwindle, Cal guided you around the cliffside and toward the beachfront just a short ways away. You gladly let the tide push you in, and you all but collapsed onto the warm sand.
Cal settled beside you, his pants stilling into peaceful sighs as the two of you took a moment to rest.
"Not a bad day after all, huh?" he finally said, head turning to face you.
You tried to hide your smile, not wanting to acquiesce just yet. "Eh, I've had better days."
"Agh," Cal groaned dramatically, lifting himself up on one elbow to get a better look at you in all your stubbornness. "Admit it, you had FUN today!"
He poked your side, eliciting a giggle. You rolled to face him back. "Yeah, yeah, the daredevil got the scaredy cat to have fun for once. Congratulations."
"I wasn't trying to prove anything," he said, countering your taunting tone with a softer one. "I just wanted us to... Get away. You know. From everything."
You blinked up at him and were suddenly reminded of his appearance. His damp ginger hair, now flecked with bits of sand, stray strands dangling into his face. His bare skin, almost glistening from the sun and the water. His muscles, far more defined than you'd have ever realized beneath his usual baggy vests and ponchos. His face... somehow so youthful and aged all at once, looking down on you with a sincerity that was becoming more and more rare in the galaxy....
"What?" he smirked.
Uh-oh. He'd noticed your wandering eyes. You faced away from him quickly, trying to cover.
"You realize you left our clothes back on that ridge, right?"
"Oh yeah," he laughed softly.
"Well I'm not going back up there...." You gave him the side-eye before crossing your arms under your head. Thankfully Cal took the hint without complaint, standing up and stretching comfortably. You may or may not have snuck another look at his physique.
"Alright, alright," he sighed with a laugh. "Whatever you say, scaredy cat."
He bolted up the beach as soon as he said the words, figuring you'd have a reaction to it. You felt your heart pulsing again. This new nickname was starting to become endearing.
But needless to say, you did throw a handful of sand after him.
