Irresponsible Cricket Commentary #IPL
So at the end of the 8th over of the #RCB vs #KXIP match during the #IPL today, the score reads 79/0, thanks largely to the much-awaited Gaylestorm that hit Chinnaswamy, and in jumps star commentator Laxman Sivaramakrishnan, with another gem:
“...and that’s first time in the innings the run rate has dropped below 10.″
I mean, what? As much as we love to bash Siva for his clichéd, deadbeat, monotone, CSK-biased commentary, this is just a dreadful, statistically incorrect, horrendously irresponsible statement to make.
The first over - amount that to some good tight bowling from Sandeep Sharma, or Gayle’s usual I-feel-lazy-this-over-and-not-gonna-move style - yielded only 1 run. And by the time the 9th ball was bowled, the scorecard read 11/0 in 1.3 overs.
So that is 9, yes nine, instances already in the match where the run-rate was below 10, before Siva decided to take the viewers for a set of meatheads and cavalierly shell out that fictitious, treacherous piece of stat!
Okay, too much of a rumble for a minor statement? Well, I’ll halt, and leave you with what @AltCricket tweeted recently:
“Laxman Sivaramakrishnan has the same credentials to be a commentator as I do to be a Victoria's Secret supermodel. #IPL”
