“Are you going to follow me forever, Rena Rouge?”
It was late. Chat wasn’t really on patrol - it wasn’t really something he was meant to be doing, but it wasn’t like racing through the city could hurt anyone, right? He’d just wanted to take his mind off things. There in the city surrounded by the sea of lights that was Paris, and his lungs burning, and his chest heaving, there was little to think about besides how he would land this next leap or lunge: it took his mind off of things very almost as well as fencing did, except he needed a partner to go fencing. This was something Chat could do alone.
Which made it odd that one of his superhero friends had come to chase after him - he’d first noticed her as a passing shadow out of the corner of his eye, and then once he’d known she was there it was impossible to lose track of her: there she was around that corner, or from that balcony, or hiding behind that chimney. What was she doing? He came to a stop because there was nothing free about being followed (it rather soured the freedom, honestly - he’d had enough of that from his bodyguard. Adrien really liked the Gorilla, but it was still suffocating, sometimes, when all he wanted was the fresh air and alive and blood pumping in his veins). He turned to face her, or where she’d last been. It was dark out. She must have been worried - it was pretty late to be running the roofs, but he was a big boy. Chat Noir could take care of himself.
The stars shone bright above them. “Why are you up this late?” he asked, because he realised - belatedly - that being up so very late was probably out of the ordinary for her, as well.
