Re-elections ordered in 38 polling stations at Srinagar, J&K Re-polling will be held in the 38 polling stations of the Srinagar parliamentary constituency on April 13. The polling would be held between 7 am and 4 pm. The decision to order re-polling was taken after the elections were marred by violence. Read more

Call for third round of polling for Nibong Tebal PKR branch

NIBONG TEBAL, June 24:  

The heat in Nibong Tebal Parti Keadilan Rakyat branch (PKR) caused by the recent party re-polling has just gone up a notch higher with the branch urging for a third election to be held after alleged discrepancies had cropped up during the second round of polling on June 22.

Former branch deputy chief Mohd Kamil Abu Bakar said the recent party election results were not credible and were not acknowledged by the Nibong Tebal PKR branch as the recent polls were tainted with what he described as dubious elements and sabotage

“The so-called fairness which is depicted in the name of the party itself (Keadilan) has vanished into thin air with regards to the recent party polls and this is a big disappointment for us grassroots members.

“The incident has also compelled some people to urge us to leave the party,” he told a press conference at the Dewan Serbaguna Sungai Bakar earlier here today.

Mohd Kamil was speaking on behalf of Nibong Tebal PKR chief Maktaar Shapee who is away on an outstation trip regarding the high drama surrounding the recent PKR re-poll on Sunday.

The recent Nibong Tebal Parti PKR polls, which ended early Sunday morning, saw the downfall of its chief Datuk Maktar Shapee.

In the results announced at 3am on Sunday,  Maktar only received three votes,  far behind PKR state leader Datuk Dr. Mansor Othman, who garnered 358 votes.

The result,s which were announced 7 hours behind scheduled time, also saw another candidate, S. Sanjeeviramah, garnering 43 votes.

The re-election process, which was held at the Seri Ampangan the JKKK Community hall, also took on a dramatic twist with tension running high, with heated exchange of words between supporters of those contesting almost leading to throwing fists at each other.

Maktar, who is also the Sungai Bakap state assemblyman, had also claimed that the re-election process did not abide by rules whereby he was only informed of the re-election date three days before, while Mansor, he alleged, was informed three weeks earlier.

Mohd Kamil Abu Bakar also described Mansor’s victory as unfair as he had vested interest in the party’s election committee.
