Ah. The salty smell of seawater always seems to ground you. This cove near the sea allows you to relax here once every few days! The view is beautiful — cyan waves crashing against the white sandy shore of the cove, almost bioluminescent, in their glory. Sea birds soar the skies and sunlight seems to blanket each and every part of this scene with a warm glow.
Sometimes, you feel overwhelmed at NRC. Don't get me wrong, you love studying there and learning new things at your pace! However, the clatter of noises, rush of students and often fast paced lessons make you have a sensory overload. To lessen that feeling of never-ending rush, you escape to this little cove near the sea. The simple beauty of this area makes you feel at ease.
"Everything is so beautiful. I wonder how Octavinelle members feel when they see the sea," you softly smiled to yourself, playing with your fidget ring, "If I find this so pretty, then they are residents of the sea. They're so lucky..."
Unknowingly, your pen began sketching an absent-minded sketch of someone. As you hummed to yourself, distracted by your thoughts, you gasped. Why did you end up drawing the notorious tweels of NRC!? God. Control your heart. That's so inappro—
Your eyes darted to the source of the sound in the far distance, your pulse slightly quickening as you strained your gaze to fix on whatever— or whoever, made that noise.
"Is— Is someone out there?" You gulped, standing to your full height as you played with your sleeve.
"Erm— I'll ask once again. Is someone out t-there?"
Maybe it was your imagination, right? Yes. That must be it. Just your imagination. You never noticed this before. This place was one with less marine life nearby. You've been coming here for a month now. A month of uninterrupted getaways. This time, why did you feel like there was someone else here too you were never alone.?
For the first time, you felt hesitant to go to the cove. A week had passed since.
Perhaps, it was due to the fear the you might encounter something out of the ancient folktales of the Coral Sea? Maybe. Or, perhaps, it was the fear that your place of solitude was no longer just yours? Maybe. Whatever the reason may be, you had to drag yourself to the cove this time.
As if awaiting your arrival, a loud sound jolted you out of your thoughts.
"Who's there? I know you're there. Show yourself!" You gulped, forcing yourself to look at the frothing waves to call your nerves down. It's alright, Y/n—
"Aren't you a lil' slow, shrimpy?" A sing-song voice echoed in front of you, making you gasp. It was oddly familiar... wait. "It took ya ages to notice us."
"Floyd, you can't be that demeaning towards a girl like her," a calmer voice chuckled, "we should be more accommodating towards such... timid ladies."
"Tskkkk. Talk about boringg, Jade."
You gasped. Floyd? Jade? The infamous tweels of NRC!? The ones everyone wants to avoid. The sophomore menaces. The ones you could admire only from afar. Oh, shit. You're doomed.
"W-What? What are you both doing here?" You paled, your eyes darting away quickly.
"What are we doing here? Shrimpy, it's water. Of couurse we'll be here," Floyd grinned, coming out of the water with a splash. And then you saw it. Webbed fingers, webbed ears, a slippery looking sheen to his torso and his legs extended into a tail. Wow. What a wonderful day to be trapped in a secret cove with the tweels of NRC in their merfolk forms.
"Never what? Come here before? Or, better yet, never shown you ourselves before?" Jade smirked, swimming over to settle on a nearby rock. "We've been coming here for a month, pearl."
"Oh. Erm, enjoy?" You focused on the book in front of you, trying to make them lose interest in you. You needed to get out of this situation unscathed and without any contracts being made.
"Enjoy? Shrimpy, you're makin' me a lil' upset here. I've been waiting for so long, and you're tellin' me to just buzz off?" Floyd clicked his tongue. "Well, now I'm pissed."
"I didn't tell you to buzz off, I—"
"Told Floyd to 'enjoy'? Darling, he's in a good mood today. And you've gone ahead and messed it up. Don't you think troublemakers deserve to pay for their actions?" Jade grinned slyly, meandering closer to the shore you were seated at. "We just want to spend time with you."
"Why? Y-You probably don't even know I exist!" You tried to reason with them, only to be grabbed by your dainty wrist something slid off in the process.
"Well, now we know," Floyd pulled you closer, leaning forward until your noses touched.
You found your eyes fluttering shut, unable to look into their searing serpentine gaze for long. Then you felt a hand grasp your throat lightly and pull your head back, thumb brushing against your Adam's apple.
"It's a little rude to cut off eye contact in that manner," Jade mused with ominous calmness, "don't you agree?"
"No, I—" you gulped, forcing yourself to look at Jade's coloured eyes.
"Now, that's a good girl," he murmured approvingly, his thumb brushing against your jaw in a mockery of gentleness.
"Hey, Jade! Don't take all the fun for yourself," Floyd pouted, his tail swishing behind him as you felt it wrap around your lower torso, pulling you back against his chest.
Jade's tail wrapped around your upper torso, the fins brushing against your sensitive nape as you whimpered, gulping down a yelp. You were so trapped.
"You've been such a pretty little thing," Jade muttered against your neck, his long tongue darting out to lick a stripe up your skin.
"That's right! However, shrimpy, you're not very nice when it comes to obeying orders," Floyd sneered, his hand coming to grab your head to keep you in place to nuzzle against your neck, "you ask too many questions."
"Tsk, let me go!" you struggled, trying to free yourself. This was so overwhelming! The double onslaught of sensory details filled your senses as you tried to get the ticklishness to stop.
"Or else? You'll do what?" Jade chuckled, kissing your cheek with eerie gentleness. "Should we let this unfortunate soul go, Floyd?"
"Hmmm, how about..." Floyd grinned, trailing off to make a melodramatic thinking action, his eyes trained on you as he smirked, "no?"
"Should we letcha leave? Or should we keep ya here forev—"
"Ngh!" You pushed them slightly, grabbing your bag before running off without a single glance, hearing their echoing laughter fill the air. You didn't even notice when the rough sketch you drew of them landed in their hands.
"There she goes!" Floyd doubled over in laughter, patting his twin's shoulder, "that was fun."
"Indeed, Floyd," Jade grinned, turning to dive back into the water.
With that, the tweels swam back to NRC grounds, your fidget ring in Floyd's hand he slid it off when he grabbed you. Tomorrow just can't come fast enough.
It's gone. Your fidget ring is gone.
You looked into your bag with tension, hoping to find it somewhere inside your zips. Maybe you had forgotten it inside! Or, perhaps, it had fallen back at the cove from yesterday's... situation.
Your ring was the only thing you had with you from earth. The sole thing which was on your body as you stepped out of NRC's coffin and into these unknown lands. The sole thing which helped keep you grounded in tense situations. It can't be lost. It just can't.
Fuck those jerks! You were going to go and fetch your ring, despite what anyone said or thought. And the thoughts of these tweels were definitely irrelevant. Yep. Truly irrelevant. Yet, damn your stupid heart for racing whenever those two menaces were nearby. It's so odd, you know? You've been noticing them around the campus, trying to stay out of their radar, but of course, the more you try to distance yourself, the more you find yourself trapped with them. So much for having dangerous crushes.
As you made your way out of NRC premises and towards the route you usually took for the cove, you felt a strange chill run down your spine as your eyes darted towards the Eastern forests. And then, the whispers started.
"Don't you want to come in?"
"All your answers are in there."
God! What in the world is happening it's almost like a spell.!?
"Looking for something, Y/n?" Kalim's voice resounded from behind you, snapping you out of the odd incantations.
"Ah, Kalim! No, not really," you smiled at him, "just my fidget ring. I think I forgot it by the cove I frequent."
"Well, that's unfortunate! If you can't find it, I'll buy you a new one!" Kalim grinned.
"No need, please! That one's special to me," you sheepishly chuckled, earning a laugh from the Dorm Head.
"If you say so, Y/n! I'm always there to help," with that, Kalim skipped away, humming to himself.
Turning away to fight against your inner monologue, you sighed, giving in as you entered the woods. It's just a forest. What's the worst that could happen? It was near NRC. And there are rarely any beasts spotted here. Though, the atmosphere was eerily quiet as if every organism was afraid of a predator nearby.
"Looking for something?" The clinking of a metal ring filled the quiet area as the irritatingly charming voice of Jade Leech resounded.
You whirled around, your eyes widening at the sight of Jade lounging around in the hidden lake in his merfolk form, your ring dangling from his fingers like a toy. The audacity!
"That's my ring!" You gasped softly, trying to reach for it.
"Hmm, is it? Come here and take a closer look, shrimpy," Floyd's voice drifted over from Jade's opposite side, the sounds of his tail splashing in the water feeling like a direct taunt to you.
You reached closer to the lake's edge, your hand reaching out to grab the ring from Jade's hands, only for your hand to be grabbed by his, the ring tossed over to Floyd. You quickly withdrew your hand, the ring being tossed back to Jade when you reached for Floyd.
"Floyd, I believe we should return this ring to it's rightful owner, no?" Jade shook his head, putting the ring out for you. "Take it."
Eh? Maybe they weren't so bad after all... they're giving it back, right? As you reached for the ring, you grabbed it securely, pulling it to yourself, but Jade didn't let go. Instead, with strong force, he pulled you into the lake, the tweels bursting out in condescending laughter as you stood up in the shallow lake, soaked.
"Y-You both are the meanest people alive!" You breathed out, squeezing water out of your hair.
"Maybe we are," Floyd smirked, splashing more water onto you. Tsk!
"Well, enough about that. Now, aren't you quite the social butterfly, Y/n?" Jade's searing gaze locked onto yours as he transformed back into his human form, walking closer to you to lean into your personal space, his single blue earring glinting.
"What do you mean?" You huffed, inching away.
"He means that you've got a huuuuge number of men at your beck and call, haven't you, Y/n?" Floyd clicked his tongue, turning into his human form as he leaned on the tree you were crowded against.
"What's your relation with Kalim, then?" Jade calmly asked, yet the murderous shine in his eyes wasn't even hidden.
"He's my friend. What's it to you guys?"
"He better remain just a friend, pearl."
"Or else there will be bloodshed. Loads of it. Keep that in mind, shrimpy."
You gulped, looking away. Damn these two men! Grabbing your ring from Jade's hands, you ran off again, wanting to create distance between you. The sound of Floyd's boisterous laugh echoed in the now empty space, accompanied by Jade's chuckle.
You've been feeling odd lately. Really odd. As if someone's been tailing you.
Every time you felt this sensation, you looked around to find the cause behind it, only to be met with pairs of mismatched eyes, ogling at you from afar. Ugh! If only you had the courage to confront them about this behaviour. Actually, you're going to try.
All this time, you've tried to muster up courage to tell these not-so-little bastards what you truly felt, but your heart would constrict whenever you thought about the act of actually confronting them out of your own accord. Not like the unexpected confrontation which happened the day you encountered them while looking for your ring.
As you clenched your fists, you made up your mind. Today will be the day! You made your way over to Octavinelle, placing a hand over your racing heart as you exhaled shakily. Relax, Y/n. It'll be fine! It always seems worse than it actually is.
Entering Mostro Lounge, you automatically noticed that the area was a little too quiet. Usually, it's buzzing with energy. Today? It just felt... isolated. Derelict, even. Walking deeper into the lounge, your own footsteps echoed in your ears. Where was everyo—
"Fancy seeing you here, pearl."
You gulped, closing your eyes at the voice from your back. Jade.
"To what?" Floyd smirked, leaning against the counter.
Your declaration hung in the air as an unreadable silence settled in the atmosphere. Jade's eyes twitched before he schooled his expression into one of calmness, yet the intensity of his heterochromic eyes stole your breath.
"W-Well, for starters, you both have been, erm, tailing me like stalkers and have been trying to show ownership over me!" You exhaled before continuing. "Not to mention, you both give me, uh, lots of trouble! I feel really upset whenever you both do so."
The ticking of the clock was the only sound for a few minutes. And then, you felt a hand on your jaw, pushing it up to meet Jade's eyes. Struggling to make eye contact, your eyes darted from one eye to another, until it stayed on his left eye for a minute too long.
A haze settled over your eyes and mind as Jade pulled you closer, Floyd's hand resting on the small of your back.
"Were those words your actual feelings?" Jade asked with a calm eerie smile.
"Yes, Master Jade," you mumbled, "I have a crush on you and Master Floyd but you both tail me to the point of making me uncomfortable."
"Is that so?" Floyd smirked.
"So, If I were to kiss you right now, you'd have no problems?" Jade murmured against your ear.
"I would not have any problems, sir," you nodded.
"But I have problems. When I kiss you, I want you to be shrimpy. Not this," Floyd sneered.
Moving your chin back down, Jade closed his eyes for a moment, breaking the magic link as you stumbled into his arms, dizzy from the magic.
"Nothing, darling. Just needed to confirm something."
"The fact that you love us very, very much. And that your innermost self said she absolutely loves being tailed by us."
Thank you for reading this! I hope you all enjoyed it. Jade and Floyd send you some pasta 🍝 Do send requests for more! 💙
