=========================================
Elijah rushed back to the compound where he found his little brother withering in agony. Unusual sight, it was considering it was normally him on the other side. Freya was sitting next to him, applying possible ointment to ease whatever pain he was feeling. Davina and Kol followed in shortly, taking in the sight before them, they too were confused and found it so strange to be witnessing this.
"Are you all just going to stand there?!" Freya's voice screamed, commanding Elijah, Kol, and Davina out of their trance. Quickly, Elijah moved over to Freya and Klaus, lifting Klaus' face to level with his own.
"It's a trick, Niklaus! It's in your head." Elijah's voice was stern and full of worry because no matter what atrocities his brother may commit, he was family and would always be so. Slowly, Klaus began blinking, the pain upon his face fading away and soon he was completely quite. However, the quietness did not last long before his blank expression was replaced by one full of hatred and anger. Swiftly, Klaus stood up, letting out a low, guttural growl.
"I'm going to fucking kill her." was all he said before he disappeared from the sight of his family before they could protest. Worried, panicked looks made their way across the compound, there was no way this could end well.
Kol was the first one to speak, "Look, I don't know what's going on with Y/N, but that crap she just pulled off was not her. I disliked her as much as the next person, but she was okay and defended our family like it was her own. I get being dead for eleven years does a number on ya, but I saw her, spoke to her when she first woke. She was the exact same person she was those eleven years ago. No one goes from zero to a hundred in just a matter of hours." Kol's arm was now wrapped securely around Davina, as if he was still terrified she would disappear.
"Well, I suppose someone ought to stop our brother before he goes berserk on the woman he loves." Rebekah chided, when a beautiful blonde-bombshell came walking through.
"Where's Klaus?" she slowly questioned, stopping on her heels. It was easy to see why Klaus adored the woman, but still it was apparent to his siblings that there was a lingering love inside him for you. Each of the Mikaelson siblings systematically covered for their brother, as there was no need to worry his current flame.
"Out." Rebekah responded, earning a round of nods from everyone in the room. Rebekah then walked over to Caroline, placing an arm around her shoulder. "Perhaps, you and I can go shopping today, love? I've been dying to get my hands on these particular set of shoes." Caroline raised her eyebrow at the sudden kindness she was receiving from Rebekah but she supposed it wasn't unusual seeing as they had both always sort of tolerated each other.
When they left the compound, Freya, Elijah, Kol and Davina began brainstorming your sudden mood change. There were many possibilities but the one that stood out the most was The Hollow.
"I still don't even understand how she took it out. She just stuck her hand in your chest and pulled it out, and according to what Kol told me, she diminished it to nothing." Davina tried to offer an answer. She cared about just as much as anyone else.
"The Hollow isn't in her, Davina, but she did siphon the magic that it had, as she was already pretty powerful before, just imagine her now. When The Hollow was alive, she had the ability to bring you back from the dead, barely blinking an eye. That's not easy stuff." Freya was now pacing back and forth, quietly muttering to herself.
"Maybe she's just tired of the hostile treatment she's been receiving from Nik." Even in such dire situations, Kol could always crack a joke or unsympathetic quips. Of course, this line granted him scolding looks from his older siblings and girlfriend.
"Case in point, we still need to find them and keep them from killing one another, if that's possible." Elijah decided that he would flip every stone in New Orleans if needed in order to find you and his brother. There was a light clicking sound of heels hitting the ground echoing throughout the compound. Freya, Elijah, Kol and Davina adverted their attention the the sound, coming face to face with you since issue with Klaus.
"Oh, this is sweet. Are you trying to find a way to save me?" Your voice was cold and methodical, sending a shiver down Freya and Davina's back. You were leaning against the wall with your arms crossed loosely across your chest.
"Quite honestly, I wouldn't bother. I don't need to be saved and if you're questioning my actions, perhaps you should consider the fact that I've only been back for two days and have been met with nothing but hostility. Consider me hurt." You let out a fake cry before going into a fit of laughter. Looks of confusion struck the crowd before you, they knew you were sassy and witty but right now, you were being reckless and your emotions seemed void.
"Y/N, this isn't you, let us help. Obviously, you didn't mean to harm Niklaus." Elijah said cautiously, edging closer to you as if you were a wild animal he needed to tame.
"I assure you, Elijah- I've never been more myself in my entire life. And as for Nik, I'm afraid that was wholeheartedly intentional. Taste of his own medicine, wouldn't you agree?" There was a low sound of throaty growling behind you and you smirked to yourself, twirling around, your sight lands on a pair of angry, flaming blue-green eyes and you felt your breathing hitch. Even though you were pissed-off at him, he was still beautiful to you. How ironic.
He stalked towards you in a deathly manner, and to anyone else, that would have made them get the hell out of dodge but due to whatever current state you were in, his actions did not faze you. "Nice to see you finally decided to join the party. Are you a part of 'Operation: Save Y/N' also?" Perhaps that wasn't a terribly smart thing to say because once again, Klaus slammed your entire body against the wall, only this time it was harder and more anger filled, causing bits and pieces from the wall to fall down. You let out a low groan, and much to Klaus' surprise, you once again laugh. A laugh so genuine, yet so fake. Is that even possible?
"Looks like somebody's got anger issues." in one swift move, you push Klaus away from you with such force, he landed in front of his siblings on his back. You arch an eyebrow in defiance, eyeing the man warily. His curly blonde hair was slightly a mess, a gentle stumble on his beautiful face. You sighed to yourself, the two of you had been through so much together and although they only knew you for four years, you've known for ten, sitting in the background quietly observing them live their lives. If there was one thing you were certain about, it was that Niklaus Mikaelson was not exactly a forgiving man.
Klaus began walking towards you again when suddenly, a horrible pain shot through your head, causing you to let out a blood curdling scream. You clutch fistfuls of your hair in both hands, falling to the ground. You mumble under your breathe. "Circe.." your anger was growing and started to fight back, only to be met with another wave of immense pain. "Get out of my head!" You scream at the top of your lungs, paying no mind to the worried faces surrounding you. Before you could utter another word, you whole world with black.
It was white all around you, nothing but a blanket of white. You couldn't see anything, but you could hear her soft hums- Circe. Wildly, you twirl around and there she was, standing before you, looking like an angel of some sort. Her tawny-brown skin radiating in such an atmosphere. You felt warm- safe, something that you hadn't felt in so long.
"Circe.." your voice cracks, hot tears threatening to spill over and feel a soft wave of sob racking over your body. Circe slowly walked up you, not saying a word as she pulled you into a loving embrace. The feeling was so real, yet you knew this was just a figment of your imagination, after all, Circe had said that the first time she visited you. For a second, you were lost in the comforting feeling but quickly, your anger shot through again.
"Leave me alone!" you scream at Circe, pushing her away from you. She didn't react like you expected her to, then again, she was in your head... right? And then it was again, that head-pounding pain that made you feel like you were being shot a thousand times over. Another scream ripped through your lungs, leaving your throat sore and your voice hoarse.
"Get out of my head, I don't want you here." you were being so cruel to the only woman that you ever considered a mother, but at this point you didn't care. All you felt was anger and hatred towards everything and everyone around you. You felt a sharp sting across your cheek and for a moment, you were confused until you realized that Circe had slapped you. "That's impossible, you're not real!"
Circe kneels down next to you, just as last time, and gather your face into her hand. "Oh, I am very real. You may be the only one who can see me, but I assure you, I am just as strong in here as I was in the real world. My child, you are now more powerful than ever, strongest creature to ever walk this earth. I knew this when I made you, but do not think for one moment that you are invincible. Everything that lives can die as everything that once died can live. If you continue to refuse to get your anger under control, you will wipe out everything in your path, no one will stand a chance, not even yourself."
"Then explain it to me, Circe. I woke up after being dead for eleven years and not even two days after that, I've practically waged war on a man that I love, despite the crude treatment I've received from him. Albeit, his anger is justified as if someone did to me what I did to him, I would hate everything too." Slowly, very slowly, you felt all of this anger begin to flow out, let go of its hold on you. But of course, things are never that easy.
"You absorbed The Hollow's powers, and that combined with the ones you already had shot your emotional and mental state through a turmoil, your abilities and powers are at war with hers, do you understand? You're in a never-ending cycle of fight or flight mode but every single time, you choose fight." By now, Circe was sitting next to you, her hand gently caressing your own. Soft hums came from her mouth as you began asking more questions.
"Oh, I understand perfectly. Basically I've gone nuts? That's really great. It's your fault, you're the one who told me to take whatever was residing in them. I didn't even know what I was doing until it was too late! And yes, I'm angry Circe but I think I have the right to be. I didn't ask to come back, but here I am because you couldn't stand the possibility of me dying."
Circe scowls at you, pursing her lips as she looked like she wanted to slap you again yet she resisted. "Truthfully, Y/N, you were not supposed to come back. The spell that I devised was meant to protect you from the ancestors, prevent them from shredding your soul, but I think something took it own course and brought you back. I can feel your power now, feel it radiating off your skin. You're indestructible."
"You just said I wasn't." you scoff at the woman, turning your head away from her. "No, I said you were not invincible. You will still break, and cry, and scream, and feel everything that's inside of you and if you let it, it will destroy whatever makes who you are as a person."
Slowly, oh so achingly slowly, you let everything in all at once and then it crashed into a tsunami, washing over you. How could you have so much pain, so much angry, and hurt when you've only been alive for two days? It made no sense, whatsoever. You look up at Circe's lovely youthful face with tears spilling gently down your face. "It's only been two days Circe, but I'm empty inside. I mean I have this anger but it doesn't do anything for me, I'm empty inside and I don't want to live but now I'm too scare to die. God, I think more than anything, I'm petrified."
"I know child, but I must beg of you, let go of the anger you're feeling. I understand you have every right to be so, however that anger is only going to fuel this... bomb and if it keeps growing at this rate, you won't be able to stop it. Do you know what I'm saying to you?" Your eyes shoot down as you were afraid to look Circe in the eye, because you knew that it was going to take more than some head intervention for you cast away the hurt and pain that you felt.
Elijah, Freya, Klaus, Kol, and Davina were standing around you as you laid on the floor screaming in agony and yelling at an invisible fiend. Without a second thought, Kol lift you into his arms and placed you on the couch, genuinely worried about whatever the hell was happening.
"Who's Circe? She's said that like three times now." Davina questioned, crossing her small arms around her body. "I really don't care because I'm going to kill her." Klaus charges after you yet again only to be stopped by Elijah shoving him back. Standing tall and proper with one hand nestle in his pocket and the other aimed towards his little brother, he spoke in a stern voice. "You will not lay a hand on her, do you understand me Niklaus?"
Klaus stared incredulously at his family, were they actually choosing you over him? Especially after what you did? He threw his arms in the air as an act of surrender. "Fine. You're all pathetic wasting your time on that wench." and at that, he vanished from their sights.
Rolling his eyes and focusing his attention on you, Elijah sighed deeply. He did not condone your actions, nor what you did to Klaus both now and eleven years ago but he was moral and compassionate man. Over those four years that you stood next to him and his family, he grew to trust you with every once of his being which is why he wasn't so quick to pass judgement, he knew there was something more to whatever was happening to you than just a little spat between you and Klaus.
"You know, I think she mentioned Circe the night she got back. Said it was her creator or whatever." Kol mentioned as he brushed away the stray hairs from your face. You appeared to be sleeping but it was evident that you stuck in some kind of nightmare.
"She was created? That's not possible." Davina stuttered out, she was confused and baffled but who could blame her though? The idea that a human being could be created from nothing was baffling. "I've seen that name mentioned in mother's grimores. Not too often but some of her spells were made because of Circe, like some were her idea or were made with her blood and whatnot. Esther had this immense appreciation for the woman. And if I have my history right, Circe was banished from her coven because they didn't agree with how she used her magic, but she was really powerful and I think they were afraid of her. And if what Kol's said it right, that Circe created Y/N, she is so much more powerful than she's ever let on. I have no doubt that the little fiasco she displayed with Nik was only a fraction of her actual power. She was strong before and in the wake of her resurrection, she appears to be even more so. Y/N is not someone we want as an enemy. I don't agree with what she did to Klaus but to be fair, it wasn't exactly uncalled for." Freya was pacing back and forth across the compound. Whatever you were dealing with right now, she just sincerely hoped that you would not wake even more angry than before, because she knew with all her heart, that if you did, there would be a good chance she, along with her siblings would perish.
"Is she crying?" Everyone's attention shot straight back to you and sure enough, your cheeks were wet with your tears. They didn't know what was happening in your head but everything in them prayed that if there was a merciful god or devil, that it was not going to send you into a turmoil.
The hour hand on the clock ticked by and you remained stuck in your head, battling whatever demon had come after you. One by one, the Mikaelson's left your side as it became apparent that you were not waking anytime soon and the sun was beginning to rise once again over the buildings.
Surprisingly, Klaus made his return home, expecting to find you gone but instead his eyes rested upon your seemingly sleeping face. For a brief moment, he was angry again as the feelings of despair and hurt from all of those years ago began to rise but just as quickly as they came, they dispersed into nothing. He walked slowly over to where you laid and sat next to your unconscious body, trying to organize his shattering thoughts.
Not that he would ever mention it out loud, but on some degree, he knew that his treatment of you was uncalled for, however, given to his vampire-werewolf nature, violence, anger, and hatred were some of his most heightened emotions. In his mind, he had the right to be so, after all, you did only leave him a little letter, never even giving him the chance to fix it. Although, after eleven years, he knew there was no way that he could have helped you, but that never meant he wouldn't have tried. Suffice to say, you broke his heart.
Klaus was about to leave you alone when he noticed your eyes fluttering, as if they were struggling to open up. He watched intently for a few minutes when your eyes opened and you shot up from your spot on the couch. For a few seconds, you were confused, trying to remember where you were. Looking to your left, you saw Klaus sitting in front of you, not saying anything. Instead he just watched you with some kind of burning curiosity. This definitely was a peculiar situation because at any given chance, he could jump at you and end your life, this you knew with all your heart.
"Why?" That was the first thing to fall from his beautiful, plump lips. You narrow your eyes at him slightly, combing your fingers through your frizzy hair. "You're going to have to be a little more specific, Nik." You say, practically taunting him. There was a low growl in his throat which he bit back. It was like he was actually trying with all his might not to go after you. "Why would you write that letter? After that night we spent talking about the dangerous future that laid ahead of us, you pretended everything was okay. I left you that morning believing I'd come home and find you asleep or something. Instead, I watched as you slowly faded away from me. I was angry with you for a while, but eventually I moved on, with Caroline." You were biting the inside of your cheek so hard now that you tasted blood. If you were being honest, you only faintly remembered the letter you wrote him, and the events that took place after it. Refocusing your attention on Niklaus, you watched as his blue-green eyes flared with emotions that you couldn't read. "And then, eleven years later, you just walk in. Which brought back those same feelings I developed the day you died, and then you went and messed with my head, made me think I was the one dying and I'll tell you this, I don't like people messing with my head, sweetheart." Klaus continued on, intertwining his large hands, as his elbows rested on his knees. He was dangerously close now, you could smell his musky cologne and faint tint of blood— his dinner, most likely.
"If you want me to be honest, Nik, I don't remember what I told you that letter which has your emotions all over the board. However, I do remember who I was and so I can tell you, that chances are, I wasn't pretending everything was okay. If anything, I was far from it, but there was absolutely nothing you could have done to fix it. And telling you would had only wasted the last moments that I would ever spend with again because I know— I know, without a doubt, that you would have looked through hell and back to find a way to save me." You crack your neck, releasing some tension that had built up, then proceeded to tuck your legs underneath you. "And now, obviously I'm not the same Y/N that you've all come to know. I have little to no tolerance for those who have no respect for other people or their lives. When you found me the next day, and started threatening me, something inside snapped, much like you, I do not respond kindly to those that threaten me. You were hostile and cruel towards me, and showed no sign of resisting. Fight or flight response, Nik." You cock your head to the side, eyeing him warily and leaning towards him, close enough that you could spot a small spec of blood on the corner of his mouth.
Klaus abruptly leaned back in his seat, creating distance between the two of you. He looked as if he was seriously considering what you were saying. Hmm— who knew, perhaps this could be the first step of getting your old life back, for the most part anyway. Then to your ultimate surprise, Klaus whispered something that you never thought you'd ever hear, so much that you were sure you imagined it. "I loved you." you stare at him shocked, sure the feelings that the two of you had for each were strong, but you never thought it to be that strong on his end. For a few moments, you consider what to say, feeling the burning and intense fervor of his gaze, you on your bottom lip, trying to figure out a way to eloquently form a sentence. "I loved you also, actually I'm sure that I still do, my feelings for you never faded away. But, it doesn't matter anymore, you're with Caroline now and from what I can tell, she's an amazing woman, you have a good thing going on with her and the two of you have a complex, long standing history. I love you enough to know that I need to let you go so you can have the life you deserve.... with her."
You weren't sure if Klaus could tell you were holding something back, but you prayed he didn't. This was the first time since you'd come back that the two of you actually had a conversation, it was completely peculiar and you didn't really know how you felt about it, yet, you knew that you liked the sensation. "So, that's it? You're making decisions for me again?" Klaus asked defensively, causing you to let out an exasperated groan. "Did you become more thick-skulled in the eleven years I was dead, or something? I'm not naïve, Nik! You loved Caroline way before you met me and even after we were together, I know your heart still felt something for her. It was always your intention to be her last love, right?" You squint tiredly at Klaus, feeling the warm heat from the Summer sun that was almost completely risen. "But that was before I met you." he responded simply, running his fingers through his curly hair, letting out a low breath. You let out a low growl that resonated deep in your throat, he was being impossible.
"Are you really going to make me fight you over every single thing I say?" You question, propping your head on the back of your hand, Klaus merely tosses his hands in the arm, a nonchalant look on his face, Gods he was absolutely aggravating. Shaking you head at him, you force a smile down, he always somehow managed to make you laugh even when you were pissed off at him. And it was even more hilarious to you due to the fact that both of you literally tried to kill each other only a few hours ago. You study him, closely watching the corners of his mouth also fighting a smile. It was something that always happened whenever the two of you had a fight, somewhere along the line, you would both just be silent and stare at each other, waiting for one of you to break. Granted, it was usually you. You drop any eye contact with him and begin focusing on fiddling with your fingers, it was strange that you were beginning to feel nervous in his presence- giddy almost. Well, that's not good. You think to yourself as you let out a cool breath.
"So what now? Do we forgive and forget, go back to our merry little lives?" Klaus asks, straightening up in his seat, genuinely interested in your answer. You stay quiet for a few moments, relishing in this calm feeling you were developing which you hadn't felt since you got back. "For the most part, yes. You'll continue your life and I'll go find mine. I should have left the moment after I helped you and your family. Obviously, you've all built some kind of calmness in your hectic lives and you and I were on the breech of becoming full-blown enemies which would have not boded well." you crack a funny smile, letting out a mirthless laugh. Klaus taps two fingers against his chin, remaining silent and seemingly taking in the quiet atmosphere around him. "What will you do? Run off to Paris? Plan world domination?" a cheeky smile formed upon Klaus' beautiful face and you could not help but laugh, a true, actual laugh at that.
"That's somewhere on the list." You laugh again, getting up from your spot on the couch and stretch. "It's quite peculiar how you managed to invade my life, Y/N. I've only met a handful of people who I still remember to this day, one thing for certain is that you've definitely made your mark." This confession nearly shocked you, Klaus never really was one who poured out his feelings and thoughts, he didn't like being vulnerable. Klaus also stands up and even to this day, you liked the way he towered over you, he was sort of like this form of protection, in a way. You let out a long sigh and stare at the entrance. The sun was fully risen and there was the gentle sounds of morning chatter. You focus your attention of him and take in his features, it was funny how even when you hated him or wanted to kill him, you still loved him, loved every aspect of his entire being. Was that even possible?
"I supposed I should head off now. Places to be and whatnot." You speak and deep down, you did not want to leave him again but of course, it was the smartest thing. You rest your hand on his shoulder ever so gently, it was like your touch was phantom one. You begin to walk away from him and you were just outside the compound door when suddenly you feel your entire body being yanked back. Before you had a chance to register what was happening, your lips collided with Klaus', so passionate and hungry. The kiss left you nearly breathless but you quickly regained your composure as you stepped back from him. For a few moments, the two of you look at each other, complete serenity.
Klaus moves away from you and inclines his head, eyeing you devilishly. "Goodbye, sweetheart." and with that, he sped away, leaving you by yourself. You touch your lips and feel your cheeks turn a rosy red. "Goodbye." you whisper quietly as you walk down the streets of New Orleans, slowly leaving behind every shred of your old life with each step.
