Chat i remembered the nightmares castle being alive thing

Heres the rough draft of that by the way, with the amount of spelling mistakes you'd think i was drunk, high and dyslexic

Like each friend...ghost, i guess? Haunts a part of the castle more but they still like mingle because they were all friends

Also like its said there they troll anyone, including nightmare

So like

Imagine dust walking by the kitchen and getting smacked by the cabinet door opening, horror getting pushed off his bed for no reason, killer feeling a hand on his back

Nightmare gets trolled the most, no one but him is aware of it

Also that'd also be why the castle is so hard to get into even if you find it, the ghosts close everything off. Even if you get inside expect to get smacked by doors, windows trying to decapitate you, soldier statues seemingly coming to life

His lovers spirit haunts his bedroom though, DEFINITELY. Like him suddenly feeling a hand caressing for a moment even if there is no one, suddenly hearing humming of a song, a book falling out the bookshelf, lights turning off when they think he needs sleep

Just for another ghost the turn it on again

Cue books flying around because two ghosts are fighting

I think thats also why he doesnt 'grief' or doesnt experience it that way, they never truly left 🤷‍♀️

That’s an interesting idea. Imagine if his lover/friend group is like the seven souls situation, or like, the mages that made the barrier in the Underground or something (at least in one au.)

The idea of nightmare’s ghost lover and friend squaring up because the friend won’t let nightmare sleep is hilarious. i wonder what all of them thought as nightmare built (kidnapped and trafficked) his gang. Probably nothing much if they were all just as messed up as him.

Ok so- hear me out- imagine this for nightmare and dream.

They have an s/o, everything is great! Although whenever they were in a bad mood, s/o would immediately know, and would sometimes complain that their negativity gave them headaches . At first they think nothing of it, they probably just weren’t that great at hiding their emotions, and the headache was probably just s/o being sad about them being upset. but soon by the way s/o described it, they noticed that it…was not normal. They described it as if they could sense the emotions around them!

As soon as Dream/Nightmare notices, they do a bit of questioning, and they’re able to figure out their s/o has the same ability to sense emotions as they do! S/o just had no idea that was what it was, and thought it was completely normal to see/sense peoples emotions like they do.

How the heck do they even have this power??? How do Dream/Nightmare even react to something like this?

Nightmare: At first Nightmare thought it was annoying, his S/o was being much too sensitive. He didn't react to his annoyance too often, normally he didn't shout or anything. He did get annoyed often though, just didn't react to it. Then he started to ask questions about their headaches, wondering if there was anything that he could do to help them stop getting the headaches. They reminded him of himself when he was younger when he was around too many positive emotions. Negative positive feelings, of course... Then he started to piece things together, and he was... confused? “You say that you can... sense that I am annoyed?” when he got the approval, he lets out a little hum and decides to try to do some tests. Finally he finds out the truth, you have similar powers to that of his own. How interesting... “No, that does not seem to be very normal with humans, Y/n.” he's going to keep an eye on this, see how far it goes, while also working on controlling his anger. He hated to be the cause of headaches for his datemate. He also helps them learn ways to control it so they wouldn't get headaches as often.

Dream: Dream tries his best to not be in bad moods, even when he's alone, he feels like he doesn't deserve to be allowed to feel bad. He's literally the guardian of positive emotions and positive energy. How is he supposed to be able to feel negative? Plus it also hurts you, for some reason... he finds it kinda exciting and wants to know exactly how you're able to tell whenever he feels bad. He thought that he's normally really good at hiding it! After a bit, he decides to ask some questions, and he learns that you could kinda... sense and or see emotions. It was a lot like what he could do, which was a shock! How in the world were you able to do that? It's a little worrying because now he couldn't hide it if he did feel bad. At least now he has an excuse to talk about his problems?

Well, in regards to that Rapunzel AU from yesterday, I bring to you the one idea I had for Nightmarch that I didn't have the time nor motivation to actually write. It's a play on The Little Mermaid but also reversed.

Nightmare is a prince, although not in line to rule as his twin brother Dream is more suited for the position. For now, their mother is Queen of some country. (He looks like Passive Nightmare but as an adult and was never corrupted.)

Nightmare likes to take walks along the beach and often sails his own ship around as he finds the ocean fascinating. He isn't too interested in fishing but often goes for a swim, although he has to be careful as bones aren't buoyant and he could drown. Instead, he likes to collect shells, coral, and other things. He also likes to draw the fish that he sees.

One day, he rescues a siren/mermaid that was captured. He happens to have snuck away from the castle and possibly disguised himself so as to not draw attention. While wandering the docks, he sees a crowd has gathered and pushes his way through to investigate.

Nightmare is both amazed but also horrified to see that the people are gawking at a siren/mermaid that has been strung up out of the ocean. He can see that she's still struggling to breath and immediately demands that she be released. They protest at first but when Nightmare reveals himself and threatens to tell the Queen that they killed a sentient creature, they cut the siren/mermaid down.

Nightmare personally brings her to the water so that she can breathe again. She doesn't wake up immediately and he ends up taking her away from all the people so that she can recover, maybe to a hidden cove. He stays by her side to make sure she'll be okay and maybe even sings to her.

She stirs and catches a glimpse of his face although it's his voice that sticks with her. He leaves before she actually wakes up and she returns to the ocean not long afterwards.

Nightmare becomes even more obsessed with the ocean and finds himself longing to see the siren/mermaid again. So much so, that he goes to a witch/warlock for an answer. They trick him into eating something like the black apple which, of course, corrupts him. The process is incredibly painful and when he wakes up at the bottom of the ocean, he has no idea where he is.

He has a more aquatic form, possibly his lower half being like an octopus, and his bones are coated in a black corruption.

He possibly goes on a rampage and is only stopped when the siren/mermaid he rescued, gets his attention. She tries to stop him, maybe with magic, but he stops when he recognizes her face. She doesn't recognize him of course, but is happy he stopped.

Nightmare can't seem to speak as he doesn't know how underwater and has to try and communicate with her through gestures. She is patient though and makes sure to help him out so that he knows how to survive.

Your pen was out of ink. you not wanting to waste the pen, decided to go to nightmare for help. You knocked on his door of his office, he gave you consent by saying “come in”. You walked up to nightmare, not caring if he thought that was rude.

You smeared the tip of the pen on his arm, earning a weirded out look from him. You opened your sketchbook and added a few details on your drawing before closing it again. “Hehe, thanks for lending me ink, nighty!” You smiled, acting all innocent.

“that was not ink! you- you-!!” Poor guy couldn’t finish his sentence before he became a flustered mess.

After that. You left. Leaving a very flustered and angered nightmare.

He will get revenge on you, just so you wait…

Thinking about young nightmare and his friendgroup...doing dumb shit....

I saw this a lot that nightmare would be the responsible and completely mature teenager that knows everything(though i havent seen it a lot now, but i also dont read a lot of nightmare centred fics because i get nit picky about it) which kinda gives me the ick i cant lie 😔

I've been thinking about them a lot recently, like nightmare probably got pulled into a bunch of dumb shit and stuff he would've never done if it weren't for his friends

I'm talking vandalism, and not the malicious kind like destroying buildings that 5 century old nightmare does, i'm talking grafitti and accidentally breaking a tree while breaking in a school because they were gonna prank the history teacher. OR when they're a little older drinking games

This man has definitely done some dumb shit, just because he is book smart and immortal doesnt mean he wasnt a teenager and young adult. He definitely both fucked up and has had some embarrassing moments.

I'm also just thinking about them having sleepovers and being in a giant cuddle pile because nightmare is cold, and him just accidentally hitting them with his tendril thingies

Sometimes its not an accident though, shouldn't have made a comment about an embarrassing moment for him 😋

Also just thinking about him and his lover when they were young, like they definitely had some fights and have said dumb stuff. They always made up, either by themselves or like that one time they got locked in a linen closet and forced to make up by the others.

Also thinking about how nightmare is an unknown creature to them, they have never seen a walking skeleton before let alone one covered in...something and tendrils out his back. Also just thinking about him and his lover exploring eachother because well, they're curious, and young so they do dumb shit and accidentally fuck up nightmares hand for a second while trying to figure out how his hands work

Or just nightmare being confused about humans, and why they are warm, why they have eyelashes and stuff. He knows they do, he has seen humans before in the village but he could never ask why they had that. So having someone explain it to him is probably nice and vice versa.

Also thinking about how nightmare is cold so in the summer all of them are frequently seen draping themselves over nightmare while eating icecream. And nightmare is still under a blanket.

Honestly just giving nightmare the teen experience because dream wont be able to because he was in the stone, and seeing almost everyone around you have had that experience, even your own brother must be..well something

Also yk how you make a dumb mistake in your teens and then discourage others not to do that?

Nightmare encourages dream to do the same embarrassing shit he did when young because he thinks it funny. Schadenfreude is something nightmare is very much familiar with

Also probably to make himself feel a little bit better that even his 'perfect' (according to the villagers) brother has embarrassing moments too

You and I are similar in not being able to read many favorite character-centric fics due to being nitpicky.

Although in my case there’s very rarely any Killer centric fics that isn’t just Killer sucking off Nightmare or Cross or simping over someone—usually Nightmare.

(Strange how this fandom used to hypersexulize killer by making him a horny lustful pervert 24/7 and infantilize him at the same time. And still kinda does. Though thankfully people are moving away from that, and i actually find much better fics for me by writers (and artists) over here on Tumblr.) (I had to prevent myself from ranting about killers potential in fics multiple times 🙏)

Anyway! I love that idea, especially the idea of him and his lover exploring eachother and just being really dumb teens. The idea of Nightmare having a teen experience and a life before all the King of Negativity, cult leader labor trafficker kidnapper torturer stuff.

It would be kinda funny and interesting if Nightmare’s lover actually had a red soul—and he kinda attaches to Killer for that reason and sees a lot of them in him (similar to how Chara saw only the “better” version of Asriel/Flowey in Killer, or how Papyrus and the whole multiverse only saw Sans, and keeps with the theme that no one but Color ever saw Killer for Killer.)

And like, Nightmare may or may not have any of those types of feelings for Killer—but he is possessive, because Killer reminds him of what he lost, and he is useful.

And also the idea of Dream having lost out on his childhood/teen hood and having to spend it just training and preparing to become the Guardian of Positivity and keeping the Balance, protecting the Multiverse, fighting/saving his brother, is all so sad. Nightmare got to live and mature naturally (without his family of course, and likely being hated and feared and isolated wherever he went), whereas Dream was forced to grow fast to basically be a child soldier.

I've been in a yapping mood lately...anyways

Thinking about nightmare and his lover doing what looks like domestic activities but when you look closer its morbid asf

Like seeing them in the kitchen, nightmare looking at them purely smitten, bantering with eachother as they cook. And later they're feeding him while nuzzling eachother

And then you look closer they are literally cooking a human heart

Cuddling up in a tree and there are people hanging on the tree and the trees around them

They're morbid with eachother and i love them ifajodeonzpancir

I love that. Imagine they wear necklaces with vials full of eachother’s blood/spit/tears/sweat/bone fragments/goop and the vial is hanging from the vines of a poisonous plant around their necks.

Someone once said to me that nightmare was much more curious and adventurous when he was younger, like in his teens, late teens and early twenties

That person was me at 3 am

And then me at 3 am had come up with the idea that what if nightmare had dated someone when he was like...15 till (i have no idea) that matched his freak scarily well

I dont think it helped that i watched adams family values that day but okay

ANYWAYS

in my head that person was like gothic victorian and would be obsessed with supernatural creatures and all that stuff

(Mostly because i dont think a normal teenager would approach nightmare??)

I havent thought about the rest that much but i might make an actual post about it 🧍‍♀️

Nightmare having dated someone who is about as sane as he is is just a funny concept to me

Like it'd probably be because he wanted to know about humans solely to understand his books better, saw this goth teen that was absolutely bonkers and went "yeah okay, guess that'll do"

Also just nightmare being as dumb as normal teenagers were is fun, like yeah he wasnt a mature adult from the start. Sure he may have been more mature but he was still a kid and a teen

Oh that sound interesting. Maybe this teen was like, “hunting” him because he was like a local legend in their area. And Nightmare initially thought it was yet another mortal thinking they could best him, but actually the teen was just curious and perhaps just wanted a reason to get away from their home/family/village. Or maybe they just got lost while exploring 💀.

I wonder how he’d react if this unknown mortal lover died after some time, either naturally of old age or because of something related to him. Either his negativity aura becoming too much for a mortal, or the village nearby catching wind and attempting to do a repeat of what happened in Dreamtale; either causing his lover to die either defending him or as punishment, or perhaps he just leaves the area and never finds out what happened to them.

That OR they were foraging in the forest and randomly came across this skeleton wearing some style of old royal clothing and a cloak of some sort, like hello?

Kind of off track here but this'll make it make more sense, in my head nightmare and dream are both disney princess level of good with animals and they both attract them, dream more usually prey animals and nightmare predators but thats interchangeable (will probably put in another ask going more indepth about that one)

Going back on track that teen just saw a skeleton with black bones(thats alive) surrounded by foxes playing around him while he is reading a book with an owl resting on a tentacle of his

Like obviously they're gonna talk to him (girl you shouldnt but okay freakaleak do your thang)

Cuz basically in my head this teen was all gothic and obsessed with supernaturals right, i saw some headcanons from an au of gravity falls and that is kinda where i got "what if they were suicidal and were trying to get killed by something they loved, aka something supernatural and inhuman"

I think he'd threathen them but soon realize this other teen lost their marbles and isn't really a threat so okay might as well get info on humans and where to get more books (i know what you are) ((its called being autistic))

I think BECAUSE this human was suicidal (i think instead of the rotting in bed depression it'd be more, yeah im gonna live but if somethings gonna kill me who gives a shit, like basically gave up) he'd be more relaxed around them, because hell this kid is both a negativity source for him and an info source.

I think this kid straight up did not give a fuck after hearing he kills people, like yeah okay, thats cool dude but keep talking about what you know about monster culture. Also that teen was also definitely homocidal, and would give him creative ideas of torturing people and killing them

Do these two go as far as to kill and scare people as for their date nights. Imagine if the human just also has an interest fascination with death blood and gore like the sisters from the movie Ginger Snaps.
