What does undertale Papyrus do for a job?
Papyrus did many things as he struggled a bit to find what he wanted to do.
He worked as an ambassador the first few years they reached the Surface, but that ended up being too much for him, both because he kept receiving threats that forced police officers to keep an eye on him, Sans, and his friends 24/7, which wasn't fun, and he grew tired of fighting against humans who don't want to listen to the point it started to be a burden both mentally and physically.
After that, Undyne tried to cheer him up a little by encouraging him to join the royal guard, as it's a lot less risky now, and it worked for a few months, but... It wasn't what Papyrus wanted to do either. Standing guard for hours was way too boring, and he started to feel anxious just at the idea of going to work.
Sans then told him that he seriously needs to stop doing jobs to please people and to find out what he really wants to do, him, Papyrus. Not Asgore, not Undyne, not Sans. Just him.
Turns out it was a lot more difficult than he thought. He tested a ton of things, but one thing always came out: he wanted to help people. He's born to be a healer. His magic is made to heal people (he's also a Boss Monster, but he doesn't know that yet).
He wanted to be a doctor at first, but, uh, yeah, he didn't feel like studying for 10+ years, and so he decided he would be a nurse. Over the years, he specialized in psychology. He's basically a therapist, but with fewer responsibilities than a psychologist. His role is mainly to be friendly to people in need, so they talk about what's wrong, and so he can guide them toward a psychologist, a psychiatrist, or everything else they might need. He absolutely loves his job and actually thinks about becoming a psychologist once he'll have enough work experience to feel confident enough in his role.
