reflections on pride and prejudice my most successful audiobook listen:
if i do anything else while listening it does Not work.
so i mostly listened, ~20 minutes at a time, before and after naps, or when i was resting eyes closed open to sleep but not trying for it
unexpected: having the audiobook associated with naps made me more excited to rest
relistening to chapters was necessary when they were first listened to as i was too close to sleep. but this was fine. and i tried not to worry too much about comprehension anyway
but thank you also chapter summaries on the internet
have to listen at 1x or slower. tbf i even listen to podcasts at 0.85 (the perfect speed where everything sounds basically normal - unless someone has a particularly musical laugh - but you have the lovely cocoon of extra time. which makes me feel safe :-) )
enjoyed occasionally having the audiobook on and reading the text with my eyes at the same time. normally i read very fast but not always feasible with tiredness migraine etc. and it's hard fsr to slow down my pace (opposite experience to audio) but i liked having the words wash over me and picking up with my eyes bits i might've missed otherwise
for future audiobooks, something else that's a bit light and funny could be the way to go. or something i'm already familiar with. but i mostly like art that makes me feel bad so hmmmm
It's fucked up, finishing a book series. What am I supposed to do now? Go about my life as if I'm not shaken to the core? Pretend that I'm unphased by never again being able to read this series for the first time? Other people are living their day-to-days, unaware of my anguish. Oh, how I wish I were them so I could read this series again.
can ANYONE do something about him. can someone PLEASE stop him. can we do anything at all about the lancelot situation.
'yeah we also have sir kay. nobody has asked about him but we also have him. just in case you cared. no? just guinevere? okay then.'
'that sign can't stop me because I can't read,' said lancelot, and lo, it was true, and it had been previously established in the narrative that he really genuinely couldn't.
if your book promises there are dragons in it I want DRAGONS. LARGE SCALED AND FEATHERED BEASTS with PAWS and CLAWS and FANGS and WINGS. not some regular human man.
guy who has read 0 arthurian texts: lancelot he's cool I guess
guy who has read 5 arthurian texts: aughhhhhh aughhhhhh awoooooo lancelot oh my god
guy who has read 10 arthurian texts: lancelot is so fucking annoying it cannot be borne
guy who has read 30 arthurian texts: lancelot is a complex and fascinating character who is immensely changeable depending on the era and author, and through examining lancelot we can actually determine a lot about the context of this particular work and how the author is interacting with this literary tradition as a whole
guy who has read 100 arthurian texts: lancelot is so fucking annoying it cannot be borne
guy who has read 500 arthurian texts: AUGHHHHHHH AUGHHHHHH AWOOOOOO LANCELOT OH MY GOD.....
