Growing This Very Real Beard Is The Best Decision I’ve Ever Made

Man, having a full, thick, real beard is the best. I’m over here kicking myself for waiting so long to evolve into the genuine beardsman you see pictured here. The days of being asked to produce a photo ID when purchasing alcohol are behind me forever, thanks to my 100% authentic beard of human hair. 

I’ve found that people are giving more weight and respect to my thoughts and opinions these days, and the only possible explanation is that they’re being influenced by the lustrous thicket now growing on my once bare and baby-like face. I feel very powerful and cool.

My girlfriend who also exists complained that my undeniably true beard was “a little scratchy.” I softly chuckled and gently told her “I think the word you’re looking for is ‘coarse.’ We refer to beards as ‘coarse,’ especially when they’re as legitimate as mine.” I find myself empathizing with her frequently these days, because life with a bearded man like myself probably presents some challenges beyond the very masculine coarseness of my previously smooth and supple face. The primal, barely-restrained desire my beard ignites in nearly every woman I encounter is probably kind of annoying sometimes, for example. 

My friend Ryan is renowned for having a truly magnificent beard, and now whenever he shares a humorous anecdote related to beard maintenance, I laugh and laugh along with him. Because I can absolutely relate to what he’s talking about now that I have a beard that I’ve grown myself over the course of several weeks.

Best story that didn’t make the paper, Santa summit edition

Reporters at the Argus have generally fixed beats. I’m a cops and courts guy. David Montgomery is a political machine.

We rotate general reporting on Sundays, though. Each of us has to cover a handful of them each year. Some Sundays require serious shoe-leather reporting, particularly when a story is breaking. Other Sundays are a lot of fun.

This story about  a group of working Santas who met at an east Sioux Falls Pizza Ranch came as a nice change of pace on Sunday after a week with execution coverage and a near-fatal police chase.

Here’s one of the many stories I heard over an hour and a half with the Santas that didn’t make the final story:

Lyle Kroon’s a very plugged-in Santa.

He’s the Santa who uses smartphone apps to determine if children are naughty and nice. He also has a Christmas DVD.

He also uses his facebook page to connect with Santas and Santa fans worldwide

“I talk with people in Great Britain, Italy, Singapore – all over,” Kroon said.

The Singapore fan wants to connect with Kroon with some children this year.

“He wants me to Skype to the children,” he said.
