let me be blown away by the shiva episode again for a minute.

so with cyrus, after the first heart warming coming out scene to buffy, they mostly showed us casual gayness. he told andi about his crush, we saw him crushing, he talked about his crush with buffy and how it went away. his gayness wasn’t shown as a big part of his identity, more like “just another thing about him- he likes a boy!” and i’m sure many queer folks can tell you how it IS a big part of your identity.

then, we have one in a minyan. Cyrus talks about how he wished his grandma knew this part of his life. we saw that coming out was SOMETHING, it was important. like it was a moment! he planned to do it and he did! it wasn’t a btw i like a boy, just like you like a boy and it’s a part of our lives :)

this is not the most coherent explanation, but i just wanna applaud this show for both showing authentic casual gay experiences, but still keeping in mind being gay is a big part of cyrus’s life, his identity, who he is. coming out, no matter how liberal ppl around you are, is always gonna be a MOMENT. so thank you.
