a little (not so☠️) silly thing because i just finished watching 1995 pride & prejudice

"what're you crying 'bout?" asked jason, landing on the couch beside tim, who sighed dramatically and dropped his head on the coffe table. the table was empty, except for the open notebook, pen and a couple of energy drinks.
"i want to ditch school, jason" he mumbled. "i can't take it anymore. i'm a tech guy, not a literature nerd..."
"now, hold your tounge 'bout literature! it's your problem that you're unable to see it's beauty" jason playfully pushed tim in the shoulder. he decided to be dramatic and fell over, spreading all over the couch. he may be a "tech guy" but drama club must miss him as much as a computer one.
"what's your problem, squirt?" jason turned to the laying form of his friend-brother-acquaintance with enough seriousness in his voice to make him speak up.
"it's just- this stupid essay. it's due tomorrow and i had this case - you remember the one, with the new drug dealer in the south - and i barely have a passing grade in literature and i never knew how to write these things... and now i don't even have the spare time for it"
tim set up, rubbing his eyes. that action brought jason's attention to his eyebags - the concealer made a good attempt at hiding them, but not good enough one, and it seemed his eyebags were determined to acquire their own eyebags of an even darker color.
jason didn't particularly care, but tim looked like a neglected street puppy. and jason was a lot of things, but never an animal abuser, so he sighed and resigned himself for a busy evening full of teaching and depressing literary adventures.
"what's the book?"
"pride and prejudice" answered tim with tired despair in his voice. jason lit up like a christmas tree. tim eyed him suspiciously.
"well, well, well... then you're a lucky boy tonight. wanna guess why?" he asked with a smile.
"not really, but i need all the help i can get"
"that, right there, is my favorite book of all time. i know every line by heart - by the way, i refuse to work with a digital copy, so you're gonna have to make a run for the library - and i understand it better than anyone, save for the austin herself" happily declared jason with manic glee in his eyes.
tim cringed.
"okay... if you say so" he truly was beyond the point of caring. that essay needed to be done, and done at least coherent enough to earn a C. "didn't count you as tragic romance guy. i guess appearance isn't everything" tim shrugged.
jason, alarmingly, beamed at his words, as he cheerfully jumped of the couch with the intention of going after tim to the library. tim begrudgingly got up.
"you have no idea how right you are, dear timothy" started jason, grabbing him by the shoulder and settings course out of the living room. "that's basically half the point of pride & prejudice. appearances cannot be trusted, first impressions are bullshit, and prejudice doesn't bring you any good"
"i thought it was about two people who were too blind to love each other?"
"and that too, timbers, not exactly, but true. i suppose you never read it?" tim somewhat shamefully nodded. "what did i expect... listen carefully, then. it's a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in a possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife..."
as jason's expressive voice got quiet and lost in a maze of rooms and hallways, dick smiled, feeling relieved, content and happy.
bruce needed his help on a case, and he stayed at the manor for a weekend. tomorrow morning he would drive back home, and with no worries about tim. sometimes life might be kind to them, he thought.

problematic ships are welcomed (as long as it's fiction and not real everything is welcomed). generative ai is crap and i do not give anyone my permission to use any of my writing or drawing for ai. fuck capitalism and eat the fucking rich.
