OMFG I can’t wait to try this out.

If you’ve been following me for a while, you probably know that I’m a GNU/Linux enthusiast, and that Linux Mint (with the Cinnamon desktop) is, and has been for years, my distro of choice. (Linux versions are called distros, and there’s one for pretty much anyone’s needs.) But I’ve got a couple of older machines that--although they do run Mint, could be a bit faster. I’m downloading this right now to try it out on a USB stick.

(Which reminds me--I’ve mentioned before that in addition to being totally free, most Linux distros can be run from a USB stick without ever touching the OS installed on your PC.)

And some great news for Linux newbies looking to get their feet wet: Rebellin Linux comes with free email support and a PDF user guide. Most distros--including Mint--have forum-based support. Not that you’re likely to NEED support, especially if you install the MATE desktop version. If you’ve ever used Windows XP, you’ll be right at home with MATE.

It’s taking forever to DL, though. I imagine their servers are jammed right now, and they haven’t yet made torrents available like Mint has. They’re still a relatively new distro, though, so I imagine that will happen soon.

And yes, I’ve been using Windows 10 a lot lately, because although most of my favorite games--Skyrim, Fallout New Vegas, etc.--run just fine in the WINE wrapper on Linux Mint with a little tweaking, afaik no -one has gotten Fallout 4 or the remastered Skyrim SE working very well on it yet.

But Linux is still my preference for doing anything--it’s faster, more secure, more reliable, more flexible, and, depending on the distro you choose, more user-friendly than either Windows or Mac. (I say this as both a former IT professional, a former die-hard Apple fanboy who used Macs from 6.7 through Snow Leopard, and as someone who has used every major release of Windows since 3.1.1.)
