There’s a revealing quote by Tex Avery that runs through my mind like moody rocket
“I was never too great an artist. I realized there at Lantz’s that most of those fellows could draw rings around me…Why fight it?Go the other route! And I’m glad I did.”
I interpret this that while Tex was not the most technical or purely draftsman, his inventive imagination, fluid storytelling, and cunning leadership of his crew more then made up for it. He was a great director.
Also, why beat a head against the wall for a skill that is not best showcase for your talent?
A artist(especially a leader) has to know their limits and true strengths, something they gravitate towards.
I see so many artists feeling they have to be master of everything, do twenty things great, instead of picking a few concise areas, the one most honed title they can, and really going for broke.
Making something good is hard, so why not make the best use of talent and really go towards what you are inclined towards?
Tex shows that to know where your limits are , what your most powerful strength is and to go full tilt towards it is just as important as having it.
Go your own way. And have some fucking fun.
