I feel like I see a lot of people arguing about pro or anti-recovery like it's black and white, which entirely makes the conversation reductive and almost the opposite thing from radical.
I feel like, it's very easy for people to get caught up in the most inflammatory interpretation of certain things, especially online with algorithms!!(They will push typically whatever gets the most engagement, and that's controversial things!!)!! And then argue that, In a very black and white way, when everything is a mishmash of a billion different colors.
I think if something is causing you distress, you should work on recovery. But if it's not and it's not ruining or taking over your life? Then that's fantastic! (I feel like this should be basic, not a hot take, but maybe I'm wrong with some of the things I see on this and other accounts?)
Personal example, I used to be utterly obsessed with the idea of someone killing me or someone wanting to kill me. It was unhealthy, would send me into random panic or other strong emotion spirals or mania, and was making it so fucking hard to live and have any sort of normal(I mostly mean healthy and good for me, not normal as defined by the society I live in) relationship. It took a lot of work to help get past that, and I would consider myself recovered.
But like, I'm still into necro and auto necro and generally being unconscious or intoxicated. And there are ways for me to play that out without actually harming myself and while being able to maintain friendships. It's only a paraphilic disorder if it's causing you to stress and fucking up your life, and you only really need recovery if it's doing that or in general something you don't want.
To actually be any sort of radical group, we have to take the outside ideas of recovery (becoming """normal upstanding citizens"""), and destroy it, redefine it in ways that actually suit us. Just like gay people don't need to "recover" from being gay but do you still have to deal with internalized homophobia and things like that, and everyone should generally try to work to be the best version of themselves.
Like always, even if I forget to say it, I love you guys and I hope we all have the best days possible. -🐈⬛🍇
