have just had the realization that, in Recursive Loop, I have put Starscream, a character whose greatest fear is his own death*, in a situation where death is his only form of agency. Man I'm evil,,,,,, sorry Starscream
*I mean you could make an argument that loss of control/power is his worst fear, but he's also quite willing to sacrifice anything including his pride for the sake of his own survival so I would still say death is the worst. and even if loss of power or control was his worst fear, being in a time loop DEFINITELY still sucks for that too. but I digress
I don't know enough about transformers to really ask anything, so take this as a free space to ramble about your favorite part of the early chapters, since I am very excited for it and will gladly eat any tidbits I can get like a voracious beast
>:))))
I'll talk abt Recursive Loop, my time loop Starscream AU!
The basic idea behind the time loops in Recursive Loop is that the Narrative itself is sort of sentient, and that Starscream is it's favorite character. (In a meta sense, the Narrative is also me, the writer.) One of the things that happens in Recursive Loop throughout the whole fic is that the Narrative will comment on Starscream's actions or thoughts. It usually addresses him as "Commander" and spends a lot of time reading him for filth. Here's some examples:
It's a little unorthodox, I'll admit, but I absolutely love it and am super happy with how the effect is coming thru in the draft so far. It's a way for me to delve into aspects of Starscream's character through the lens of the story itself, this force that controls and sees everything and Has Opinions About It (tm). And the fact that the Narrative obviously knows that everything is a story also affects how the time loop functions. The Good Loop isn't just a version of events where everybody lives or nothing bad happens, it's the version of events the story itself finds most narratively satisfying.
im so fucking tempted,,,,, but there's so much going on it recursive loop already,,,,,, BUT I WANNAAAAAA
me: i'm going to be smart about this and write the entirety of Recursive Loop before i post it. because time travel fics can be tricky with plot holes and also bc this means i have to finish it before i can get that sweet sweet ao3 inbox notification
the gremlin in my brain: ..........yeah but if you post it now you get ao3 inbox notifications NOW
Something something Clovis Bray something something Banshee-44 something something Ace of Spades something something Firefly something something Fatebringer something something Vault of Glass something something Vex Homeworld something something Clovis Bray something something...
FACT: Lip biting is a recursive loop habit, as biting lips dehydrates them, which inspires further lip biting.
The truth about grad school?
It must not be too tough, because many people I know who are currently in grad school find time to update their facebook status multiple times each day to tell the world how tough grad school is.
