Ok, so Brombal just did an interview with the We Got Issues podcast and gave more info on the New Titans, and what he has said is promising.
Jon, Yara, and Steph were the three heroes he wanted most for the new team, and said he wants to show what steph is capable outside of Gotham and let her build connections out there like he has been doing with cass. he wanted jon, yara, and steph specifically as his trinity rep, saying they really represent the current generation of those groups
also, despite what the preview descriptions made us fear, he says he is holding on to the core four of jon, steph, yara, and tara for as long as he can. so like, its not gonna be this start of run weirdness and then they leave. also, he did not disclose how big the team will get but did reveal that Red Devil will be joining the squad as well! he also said the team going forward would be a mix of old and new and name dropped cyborg and nightwing so like, some of the current team is staying but others might leave.
he said his goal is to do "a lot of new stuff with these characters, with new villains and conflicts or new takes on villains and conflicts, with it being a very character forward book with focuses on their relationships and struggles with being heroes in the world." he wants to get away from old stories and "really spotlight steph and yara and jon and [other characters he will bring in]". he wants the older generation struggling and learning alongside them.
he did specifically say hes interested in the interactions between dick and steph and what their personal views of the titans are and can be. (yay finally dick and steph interactions!)
all that being said, like, i have not read enough of brombal's work to have opinions one way or the other on his writing specifically, but the concepts he is talking in are exactly what i have wanted out of this book with this new cast so. im very excited
