I saw a post that said Red & Blue are a metaphor for the AIDS crisis and how the medical systems refused to treat HIV+ patients, and it has haunted me. It’s so correct. God, I love the symbolism in Danger Days.

killjoys thoughts time. what are your thoughts on androids supposedly not being able to leave battery city in the comics, but then blue being able to leave anyway? was it all BLi propaganda from the start or was there something special about blue’s circumstances that made her an exception? (this is something i think about frequently lol. i personally lean toward it being propaganda but it could really be anything) also would love to hear any miscellaneous droid thoughts if you have any :]

I think it’s partly propaganda but IS true for droids who are newer models or have low battery life. I believe Red got shorted out because her battery was already low and she was dying, and that a sufficiently-charged droid could make it through but not undamaged. Newer models—in my headcanon—also can’t pass through because they’re designed with specific limitations so that BLi can better control them.

red & blue being lovers in Cali but their alternate universe versions in National Anthem being cousins, is really fucked up. Gerard kind of has an odd trend of making pseudo-incestuous relationships (see also in Umbrella Academy where an adoptive brother & sister, who share an adoptive father, are in a relationship)

Day 5 of Paradise Motel Week Red and Blue AO3 Link ~ “Sometimes you need to just cuddle your android gf.”

Red was calmly sitting in a comfy chair, wrapped up in the oversized sweater Blue had given her. The noises of people yelling in the Lobby sidewalks towards passerbys. She could hear someone call out particularly loud, and a familiar voice calling back to them.

Blue entered their small living space, calmly setting a plastic bag down on the table, smiling faintly at her red headed partner.

“Welcome home, dear,” Red smiled back, sitting up more in her chair. She brushed some of the hair out of her eyes, they had practically lit up as soon as Blue had come home. 

Blue smiled back, taking the plus out of the bag, “Thank you, I’m happy to be home,” she made her way towards Red. Red shifted and let her carefully put the plus into her back. 

When Red turned back to look at Blue, she noticed how tense she looked. The red headed droid pulled the other into her lap, “Stay,” she mumbled as she buried her face into Blue’s shoulder. 

“Don’t worry,” Blue whispered back, wrapping her arms tightly around Red, “I won’t leave.”

I was disappointed a bit with Red & Blue’s story in the Cali comics, I remember part of their backstory being that one found the other in an alleyway with no memory, and I thought we would get a reveal that whichever droid it was, turned out to have an important person’s soul put in them from the electrical grid’s soul system thing. Also, what was the point with waking DESTROYA when it seemingly had nothing to do with Battery City’s destruction— the Girl did all that!

same anon as last time, want to clarify

I don’t remember how Sofia and Maria are related or if they’re sisters or cousins sorry, and my point is that Red/Blue as droids aren’t incest & are unrelated, and that the Codes being themed after the droids doesn’t mean they’re incestuous with each other. People are weird for trying to interpret the Codes as being incest, when they’re clearly not ever romantic or sexual with one another.
