The back of his hand was numb as she crumpled to the ground, silent. He could already see a bruise forming under her skin from the impact, the blinding fury dissipating as he saw the result of his actions.
“Kid-” He started, reaching to help her up—but everything felt like he was moving through a thick fog. She stared up at him with wide, tear-filled eyes, fingers touching her cheek as if in disbelief.
