Two soldiers walk into a room.
Inside there is a red button and a blue button; one that saves you if you press it, and another that saves everyone, but only if it was chosen by 50% of all players.
One soldier looks to the other and says:
“Hey, you ever wonder why we’re here?”
Everyone in the world has to take a private vote by pressing a red or blue button. If more than 50% of people press the blue button, everyone survives. If less than 50% of people press the blue button, only people who pressed the red button survive. Which button would you press?

supernatural people— i’ve been dying to hear thoughts, if you’ve heard about the red versus blue button debate, what would Sam and Dean choose/ think?
Having taken an ethics/philosophy course about a year or so ago has made all discussions on the red/blue button conundrum exceedingly funny because most people dont actually knows how to approach these kinds of ethical questions and understand the ethical mechanics going on behind the surface so you just get the most buckwild takes about the other button you wouldn't press.
Like no buck, all people who press the blue aren't suicidal morons, and no buck, all the people who press red aren't misanthrope murderers.
There is no correct answer, that's the point. The point is to make you think and discuss and prompt a dialogue about what limits does the obligation to help others have and at what point do you have the ethical right to have the choice to prioritize your own survival over others. You're supposed to disagree with where that line is so you can discuss that and come to a better understanding of why you think that. Don't stop strawmanning on my behalf though, it's funny to see what weird scarecrows y'all are making.

Rules:
Everyone has to pick a button, there is a red button and a blue button. If the majority of people pick the blue button everyone survives. But, if more than 50% of people pick the red button then everyone who picked the blue button dies.
Guys I asked my chronically offline sister the blue vs red button scenario and she said:
"There are not enough selfish people in the world for me to not choose the blue button."
And I'm like??? Did u just??? Pholiso-fy this question?? Tf??
I'm not sure if tumblr is getting that post about the red and blue button, but red button pressers piss me off so bad. for those not in the know: "In front of you appears red and blue button. If more than 50% of the people presses the red button, everybody who pressed the blue button dies. If more than 50% of the people presses the blue button, nobody dies. What button will you press?" and IMO the blue button is the obvious choice if you want the most people to survive. it can be broken down into these simple words: for everyone to survive, *everyone,* 100% of people, must choose the red button, or 50% must choose the blue button. all the red button pressers are just plain greedy, and I don't blame them, but I think how I simplified the question makes a lot of sense.
