Incredible. While snakes can be rather delicate, they also often prove amazingly durable and resilient, like this #RedBelliedBlacksnake from #SpringfieldLakes. Despite a massive amount of scarring, suggesting this beautiful beast was nearly cut in two at some point, the injury was old and well healed. Disturbed this lovely red-bellied black snake while I was setting up southern bell frog monitoring sites. It watched from the safety of the #wetland for at least 10 minutes until I left

A stand off with a large #malekangaroo last week, a rendezvous with #redbelliedblacksnake today, delight at the distinct calls of the #easternwhipbird in the #gondwanarainforest, and a nice #photoop with this very hungry #azurekingfisher that was flirting around us as we sat (in the background in the upper left corner) admiring at the views of the #baxterfalls; the exploration of #australianfauna alone is worth all the pain on our, what locals call, #walkinthepark.
