A tray of peppermint bark, home made. The largest vat of buttered and salted popcorn, still warm from the theatre across the way. Beside it, a salt block on its own, and a water pot set over a sterno can, meditated over in a ritual of time offered up to you until it either boiled or the flame went out.

I don't know what prompted the question, but I think it's about how scientists/architects are trying to overcome the problem of creating a "nuclear waste" warning that will still be understandable in 2000+ years (I think I've even seen 10000 years given as the number), even devoid of all other context. One proposed solution was "hostile architecture" meant to intuitively show that the area was a dangerous place

Oh, yes, @redbirdblogs messaged me again about it and then I dissociated and forgot to answer her question, thank you for putting the explanation here. 

I think the thing that’s weird about hostile architecture, in general, is that humans are naturally curious, so it wouldn’t be a “stay out of here” feeling that I would get, as a human, if I saw something like the drawings I saw when I looked it up. I’d wanna know WHAT it was and WHY it was like that. It’s why I want to be an archaeologist. I want to know things. Humans want to know things. 

But I also think that with our current technology and the way we preserve and record things now, it would be near impossible to NOT communicate what it is to people in the future. As in, the language would be translated and evolved over time and that we, as a species, would know because we have things like nuclear museums and they keep record of things like this. And I think it would be odd if we had something that intense that needed a warning for 10,000 years that wouldn’t be given thousands of language translations to make sure someone in the future would understand that there was no reason to go rummaging through that area. Unless something extremely catastrophic happens to the entire planet and destroys almost all of our records of everything, I highly doubt that it would not just be passed down like “hey stay out of there if you don’t want to succumb to this horrible fate.” Even then, oral traditions are a thing and can be handed down. While people are naturally curious, we are also technically natural caretakers, and even if we “forget” or “don’t know” what it is in the future, the instinct to protect our own against it would be there. That’s my theory, anyway.

10: What small responsibility do you get the most excited over?

Buying my partner’s clothes and accessories. I do all of his clothes shopping (he doesn’t notice when his clothes are worn through) and I get really excited when I get him new stuff and he likes it. Even small things like socks. 

16: Favorite place in your home?

The corner of my giant L shaped couch by the window. In the fall and spring, when the weather is cool, I like to put my feet up on the back and feel the cold breeze from the open window. Cooling my feet feels very decadent somehow. 

25: What’s changed the most since 5 years ago?

Oh boy. What HASN’T changed a lot since five years ago. Five years ago I was still working despite the horrible pain I was in. I was mourning the loss of all of my friendships (I still am, tbh, but it isn’t as fresh). I was moving out of Brooklyn. I wasn’t in therapy and had little understanding of my mental state. I was a mess. I’m still a mess. But now I am actively recognizing the mess and trying to organize it instead of just forging on ahead and hoping the mess will just kind of sort itself out on its own. 

And I have new friends now! Friends who actually care about me. Which is new. And exciting. So I guess that’s the biggest change. I have real friends for the first time in my life, and it only took me until my late 20s to find them.

7) When is your preferred time to write?

Preferred? literally any time during a normal waking day is when I’d ~prefer~ my brain be willing to do the thing. 

However, I’ve found that I write a lot more, and a lot better, in the middle of the night. I was up until 5am last night working on my latest project, and recently was up until 8am on a different project. I get so much more done after midnight and seem to finally hit my muse and get on a roll. I can stare at a story literally all day long and barely get 200 words out, but 1am rolls around? It’s like a switch is flipped and the words just flow.

39) Do you prefer first, second or third person?

So I’ve been writing since I was a kid and wrote mostly in first person until I discovered fanfic in my 20s. Nowadays, I write almost exclusively in third person and it’s been years since I’ve dabbled in first person outside of creative nonfiction. I like both I think equally? Very different styles that do different things.

50) If you could write only angst, fluff or smut for the rest of your writing life, which would it be and why?

oooooof probably angst bc that doesn’t negate a happy ending, just that it’s gonna be painful getting there and that’s my happy place. I enjoy fluff, and smut is weirdly easy to write for me, but oh angst, how you make my heart sore <3

you are always so kind  ;u; seriously it means the world to me when I think about how I might never get published I might never tell Sterling Avis and Joseph’s story at least one person was invested enough with the little snippets I gave and that’s enough to make the story feel worth it
