The new 'redditor contributor program' is so mcfuckin dumb.
All the people I know with a ton of karma, like enough to be eligible for the program, earned it over like, 5+ yrs of totally organic posting and commenting on reddit, mayhaps a few viral reddit posts here and there.
Funny bc the older someone's accounts is, the more likely they'll be suspended for a totally dumb reason, it's just a matter of time. And having past suspensions makes someone ineligible for this program.
So who tf is this program for? Karma bots? Just super super lucky people who managed to get tons of viral posts within a few months of being on reddit, but who aren't around long enough to get suspended for no reason?
Reddit can't even get its shit together with the moderating problems and they roll this out, I'm just.
Hello I am a Reddit refugee and loving your blog. I have two questions:
I) What are your findings so far on what you think /r/196 is?
ii) Do you actually know what Reddit gold is (or at this rate was lmao)?
1) All I've really got so far is that there's a lot of gay memes. Definitely a high concentration of queer people. Possibly there were furries? Some mention of meowing at each other? Absolutely no clue what the numbers refer to.
2) I was an active Redditor for several years (starting in 2009ish, continuing through my 2010 angry atheist phase and out the other side) and my Reddit username was actually what led to me eventually picking "Dove" as my online name. It's been ages since I used Reddit regularly, but I do know "Reddit Gold" is its currency and not a reference to content from the site à la Facebook gold. That just made it funnier to choose as my Reddit tag 🙃
