Ngl, the exodus from Reddit to Tumblr has been a breath of fresh air.
I haven't had to argue with anyone (yet) about history that people don't know because they pretend r/HistoryMemes is the equivalent of my B.A. in History and Political Science, therefore they know more than me
I haven't had any pushback from anyone about my sexuality or gender.
I actually interact with people on this website instead of having an argument in a comment section.
I'm not saying that things are perfect here. But I don't think I would go back even if Spez weren't a piece of shit. Y'all made me welcome here. This enby lil bitch appreciates it. 💕💕💕
The funniest parts about Tumblr, Reddit, and Twitter all collapsing is they all had to undo ONE decision, and it would've prevented it all.
If Tumblr had gone back, or even just lessened, its porn ban. It could still be in the top 10 sites, worldwide.
If Reddit had reversed its API decision, it wouldn't be struggling with a volatile, unsellable user base.
If Twitter had just not changed ANYTHING. If Musk had just LEFT THE SITE ALONE, it would've begun pulling a profit within a few years, and would've been bringing in enough revenue to keep the site alive until then.
But that didn't happen. These sites were making power hungry moves and chasing the money of advertisers to make up for it. However, each one of them forgot one very important thing:
A sanitized, unpopular website upsets it previous users. Upset users flee a site, leaving angry, volatile individuals behind. Angry, volatile users aren't marketable. Without marketable users, the site has no marketable value. And without marketable value, no advertisers are gonna give you money.
Anybody out there still avoiding Reddit since the July 2023 blackout?
Yes - haven’t even lurked
Yes - have lurked but haven’t signed in / reactivated account since then
No
Quit Reddit after blackout
I’m bald
A quick heads-up to the Reddit refugees:
Tumblr has a lot of openly neurodivergent people. I'm not sure why that is, but I personally suspect it's because Tumblr has a lot of anonymity compared to other sites, which makes it feel safer to people who struggle with social anxiety. It might also be because there's the ability to create different blogs for every topic you're interested in, so if for example an autistic person wants to make a blog dedicated to a special interest, or a system wants to make different blogs for their alters, it's fairly easy for them to do so. Either way, Tumblr is where a lot of neurodivergent people can express themselves freely when they can't in real life.
If you're neurodivergent or an ally, I hope you feel welcome here and find a community that makes you feel at home. If you're looking for blogs with similar experiences to yours, a lot of tags for different conditions are formatted like #actually [condition], like #actually autistic or #actually OCD.
But if you're from r/fakedisordercringe or any other subreddits that focus on accusing disabled people of faking it, I want you to know that you can't always tell who's faking it just from a Tumblr blog. By publicly calling them out as fakers, you could force someone who actually has that disorder to doubt themselves and avoid getting help until things get worse. I can't stop you from sending shitty fakeclaiming asks to a system's blog or whatever, but before you do, consider if you're willing to risk doing it to someone who might not actually be faking.
That's all I wanted to say. Welcome to our beloved dumpster fire!
For those of you who use Reddit.
You may have noticed your favorite sub set to private today. Especially if you weren't logged in. This is not a glitch, this is not a hack, this is a protest.
In a nutshell Reddit wants money so they're cutting off 3rd party apps that refuse to pay up or can't from the API. This is going to destroy communities that have to moderate with the help of bots. Take a guess how many communities that includes. Some of the same applications affected are also used by those with disabilities in order to use Reddit.
Reddit doesn't care. They haven't implemented the needed accessibility features these apps provide and more than likely won't. The apps have been given a month and then if they didn't or couldn't pay they're gone. Another one of the main concerns related to losing bot moderation on Reddit is without the ability to use the bots illegal material will have an easier way to spread. Moderating a massive subreddit 24/7 is not a job that's reasonably doable by a small group of people who in all likelyhood also have a job offline, lives outside of the Internet, etc. A lot of mods moderate for free. Without the bots some subs will most likely have to shut down.
The goal of the protest is to go dark on the entire site until better terms have been negotiated. Which is why your favorite sub may have "gone dark" today. (Privated)
You can participate if you wish by spreading the news outside of Reddit and staying off of Reddit.
bro, the tumblr users go from being one of the most top 10 endangered species, to this now being overrun with invasive species
we are literally repeating history.... Reddit: Americans Twitter: The British Tumblrinas (here before the migration): natives
we're being colonised
I can’t believe I was so fucking dumb to chose the hellsite that is Reddit over a bountiful and lush oasis that is Tumblr
I should punch my past self
