Daredevil #230 | The Defenders s01e08
Do you know who's at the end of the hallway? bruceewayne(.)tumblr(.)com/post/160271112663/marvels-the-defenders-2017-dir-s-j-clarkson I mean, it could be Claire but it looks like it might be Elektra as well. What do you think?? :)
It’s Elektra! And we are loving her new costume, by the way.
hello love <3 could you help me with the time line? jessica jones sat a few months after daredevil and luke cage sat few months after jessica jones? is that it or am i wrong? xx
Hi! The timeline’s a little tricky to track, but yes, most of the shows take place a few months apart, in the order in which they’re released. The only exception is Luke Cage, which may overlap with Daredevil Season 2. Here’s the apparent approximate timeline, as far as we can tell, based on the vague evidence of the cycling of seasons throughout the five shows:
Daredevil Season 1: Ends in late autumn/early winter.
Jessica Jones Season 1: Starts mid/late winter, ends in the spring.
Daredevil Season 2: Starts in the summer, ends in mid/late December.
Luke Cage Season 1: Episode 5 takes place after DD Season 2 episode 11, seemingly in autumn.
Iron Fist Season 1: Takes place in the spring.
In any case, one thing we now know for sure is that The Defenders will take place one month after Iron Fist.
Hi! This is a completely neutral message, but I was wonder what your stance is on the critic iron fist is getting for being a very Asian centred story, but not casting an Asian actor to play Danny Rand? Have a nice day!!
You too!
This is a tricky topic, and something we don’t tend to get into much on this blog, but in short: It’s hard for us to be critical about Danny Rand, since we love him and the Iron Fist mythos so much. At the same time, it is important to be critical about the media you consume. We fully sympathize with those who wish Danny had been depicted differently, and we understand the arguments for an Asian casting choice. It would have been a good way for Marvel to acknowledge the occasionally appropriative nature of his story, and we would have been really interested to see where they might have taken that new narrative.
But as it stands, we trust Marvel’s casting department, and are excited to see what Finn Jones brings to the role. We’ve enjoyed his performances thus far, and based on the interviews he’s given, he seems to really understand Danny’s character.
Is it just me, or does Luke Cage look a little more buff in the Defenders photos?
It’s because he powers up whenever he comes within fifty feet of Danny Rand.
do you think they would kill claire in the defenders to bring all the defenders together, like they did with coulson in the avengers? i really dont want it to happen :\
We hope not, but to be frank, it’s a possibility. The audience is attached to her, all of the protagonists are attached to her, and she’s been around for long enough that her death would be dramatic and impactful. It would be a death with meaning, and would be the ideal catalyst for triggering the team-up and motivating the heroes to do some heroing. These shows have not been shy about killing off high-profile characters, and while Claire has a very important presence within the MCU, she’s not inexpendable.
It’s still not clear what the Night Nurse situation is, and whether or not Claire could eventually take on that role, but regardless, she’s a character with limitless narrative potential and the possibility for a great future in the larger MCU. Civilian characters who are embedded in the superhero world are always great fun, and are important for maintaining that essential human element and groundedness in stories that feature aliens and magic and the ends of the world. Part of the power of the superhero narrative is the link between the human and the superhuman– between the hero, their own humanity, and the people they protect. Claire is one of the best civilian characters the MCU has, and we really hope she’s here to stay. Killing her would be an effective plot point, sure, and we’d understand why they might make that decision, but it would also feel like a waste of a great character.
any idea when/if we'll be getting another iron fist trailer?
We’ll definitely be getting at least one more– probably more. They usually put out a two-and-a-half-minute-long trailer at some point, and we haven’t gotten one of those for Iron Fist yet. (Plus, the NYCC one was only a teaser, according to Netflix.) There hasn’t been any news yet indicating when the next trailer will air, but given that we’re only two months (!!) away from the show’s release date, it should be soon!
A small hope i have for the Defenders series is that there is a side plot that acts as a sort of back door origin story for Trish getting her superhero persona and powers kind of like what Daredevil season two was/did for the Punisher
Yes! Agreed. We’re really eager to get Hellcat in the MCU, and Defenders would be the perfect opportunity for Trish to take that next step!
