Power Man and Iron Fist vol. 3 #6 by David Walker, Flaviano, John Rauch, and Clayton Cowles
Daniel Thomas "Danny" Rand - Iron Fist
One positive of Danny staying as the Ghost Fist might be that we'll end up seeing more Orson
True! I'd love if that ended up being the case. And also the Immortal Weapons (they're all dead too now, if anyone missed it. Because apparently, being cannon fodder is all they're good for these days. Sorry, don't get me started...). I would love to read Danny's Adventures in the Underworld, featuring Orson, the Immortal Weapons, T'an-Long, and cameos from other dead Iron Fist characters (*cough* LEI KUNG, PLEASE?). That premise has a ton of potential, and it could also tie back to Danny's many brushes with the afterlife in previous runs, going all the way back to "Shall I Love the Bird of Fire?" in Deadly Hands of Kung Fu, when he got stuck in the Land of the Dead and had to fight his mother. There are cool stories to tell about Danny's current situation, for any writer interested in telling them.
Variant cover by Nicoletta Baldari for VeVe's special collector's edition of Marvel Premiere #15.
Dear Kevin Feige,… Part 6
Continuing my series on 10 things Marvel Studios needs to get right about Iron Fist.
6. "Immortal Iron Fist" isn't about Danny being immortal. It's about the legacy.
The Netflix series had Danny Rand refer to himself repeatedly as the "Immortal Iron Fist" like it was just a cool-sounding title. It became a meme because he sounded like a lunatic, which is why he was in a mental institution in an episode of Season 1. But "Immortal" is not about Danny Rand living forever. It's about the unbroken line of champions who've held the title before him, stretching back centuries. Danny isn't immortal. The Iron Fist is.
This is what Ed Brubaker and Matt Fraction explored so well in their Immortal Iron Fist run, widely considered as the definitive Iron Fist story. Every generation, K'un-Lun produces a new champion who defeats Shou-Lao and takes up the title. Danny is one name in a very long list, full of fascinating characters Marvel Studios should look to explore.
Orson Randall, the Iron Fist before Danny, fought in WWI and carried trauma and weariness that shaped how he passed down the title. Wu Ao-Shi, the Pirate Queen, defied K'un-Lun's traditions just to become Iron Fist in the first place. Bei Bang-Wen with his perfect strategy mind, Kwai Jun-Fan, the Iron Fist of the Wild West, and the future champion, Wah Sing-Rand.
But beyond just establishing the legacy, here's what you should do, Mr. Feige: adapt the Immortal Iron Fist story itself. The post-credits scene from the last episode of Iron Fist Season 2 already teased the appearance of Orson Randall for season 3, in case it had been greenlit.
The tournament of the Capital Cities of Heaven. Orson Randall's hidden past catching up with Danny. The mythology of the seven cities and their champions, and centuries of history colliding in one storyline. This is one of the best superhero stories ever written, and it's sitting right there, ready for live-action.
Adapt it properly, and Iron Fist goes from underappreciated to unforgettable.👊
