Reencounter

I hope five years from now we run into each other; We’d get dinner of course, and ask for all the updates.

You’d offer a drink and I’d decline and say oh no, I’ve been sober six years, didn’t you know? And we would both wonder what else has changed.

If I got up the courage, if I’m not then such a coward, I’d ask if it was all in my head after all, just my imagination, just youthful dreaming and self-centered agonizing, or was it something else? Did you ever think about it?

You’d laugh and make some joke, and I would laugh too, so that you wouldn’t feel bad about what you did, making me feel bad, and we wouldn’t stay for dessert.
