week 5 process

This week I played with a few supporting text ideas. I still want the supporting text to be a handdrawn element, I think it makes sense when my chosen design style is grunge, plus it is a fun personal touch to include. I also played around with colour and shades a little bit, I think I honestly like black and white the best but I feel like my background will need something more to make the overall image strong enough to pull off b/w.

The first poster is definitely out, I don’t hate it but it’s not particularly strong. On the other hand, I do quite like the second poster with a red background. It feels vampire-y (a good thing) especially with that crucifix “t” so bold in the centre. 

The only difference between this two is the supporting text. I think the blocky lettering is better, but its lowkey illegible because of the black fill so I’ll probably need to fix that. I do like the more scratchy looking font on the right poster though, maybe if I made it bigger that would help? If I did include a background image that could act as a colour fill for the hollow font too. 

Much to consider! Not that much time to do it though!!!!

UNIT 5: Media and Information Sources

I learned the media and information resources. First the indigenous media refers to any form of media using indigenous knowledge that is created and operated by, for, and about the community. Indigenous awareness refers to an uncommon source of information that is conveyed by people's media or through indigenous media. Indigenous knowledge is characterized as knowledge that is unique to a particular culture or society (Warren, 1991). Examples of this are Northern Dispatch Weekly (NORDIS) Philippines, Zigzag Weekly, and Northern Philippine Times.

Second, library a place where various people are present and use literary, musical, artistic or reference books or resources, but not for sale. Examples of this are books, academic journals and encyclopedia.

Third, mass media reaches a large audience through published, spoken, or broadcast contact. Examples of this are newspaper gather and edit stories or documents, usually published on a daily basis, covering current events for information or entertainment. People read newspapers to collect up-to-date local, national and international knowledge. Wireless this applies to the propagation of sound signals from a transmitter through the air as radio waves, captured by an antenna and transmitted to a receiver. Electromagnetic networks connect radio stations that communicate information and messages. Television– like Radio, Television– sends information and messages through the air, but instead of just sound, television also sends through to visual images.

And last, database the types of items in the collection are cited in the newspapers, newspapers, magazines, podcasts and other media. It can also include short summaries or comprehensive information about such articles.

Are there instances when you used social media and ICT to help someone? How did you accomplish the task?

   Yes, there are instances that I use social media and ICT to help someone. It may be a help in projects, entertainment, education or personal problems. Just like what happened before, when my friend’s bestfriend was missing. Her bestfriend is a guy who studies at FEU. Before the next day, he was gone missing and no one could contact him. That’s why my friend contacted me through facebook if I knew the guy or saw him. Because I didn’t know who that guy was, I started asking my friends in facebook and they also helped us. Finally, after connecting with different people, we found the guy. And the guy was safe. Thanks to social media that helped us a lot. We can say that although social media is like a distraction but it is helpful in many ways.

In what kinds of projects is the hyperlink very helpful? Why do you think hyperlinks can help you in this regard?

  Hyperlink can always be helpful to take a user to another webpage with related content. It is not just for display to look presentable or what but it makes difference in the content of your presentation. Hyperlink can be used in reports, journals, analysis or even in presentations.

   It has its credibility, when you include it in projects. Credibility means with the use of hyperlink, you can cite your references or name a source where you get the information. It would be easier because you can put the hyperlink even it's not specific. Also, hyperlink can be used to increase page views especially if you are a blogger. Hyperlink has the ability to keep readers on your site for longer. While in presentations, hyperlink will lessen the work because once you click the link, you can go to your designated document or web; much easier than doing it manually.

  Hyperlinks may sound common but it has a lot of purpose. Just like how the technology evolves, hyperlinks become useful and helpful in terms of making your work easier

Loving the Unlovable

John 13:34-35

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

I would like to reflect on this by answering relevant questions and hopefully I would cover most of important points on the lesson.

How to determine the love of God? Knowing how God showed us love is a joy to heart and when I thought of His love I can’t help but think of all the relationships I currently had. Having this as lesson, I took the opportunity to appreciate these God given relationships and I think it’s the best drive to love others as well. Indeed, God’s love was expressed through my family and I’m confident that among all relationships I had, theirs are the kind that though incomparable to God’s  love, is the closest to His there is on earth. 

Who are the  “unlovable persons” in my life and why I have to love them? It was discussed that there are three basic points on why we have to love the unlovable.

1. God is God of love.

2. He loved us first.

3. It is a proof of being Jesus’ disciple. 

As a nurse, the closest unlovable people are my patients. Working in a government hospital, Mostly I handle patients who came from poverty-stricken group (and are usually the uneducated ones). Patients in pain or in altered health condition are by nature, demanding and self- centered, justifiable by health demand situations. To deal with “difficult” patients professionally is every nurse’ call but I realized to serve them with love is God’s higher calling and that’s where we sometimes fail. Many times I’ve encountered unlovable patients and I won’t deny that I sometimes fake “love” and use my voice of compassion just to get through a shift, it does work at times but faking compassion drains my passion. I became tired and out of motivation. It’s when you really feel the call to love people, concern and service comes out naturally and it always pays to love for no matter how hard hearted or close minded a person is, if she/he felt REAL concern, she/he will put down it’s guard and pride, without fail. Love can move a heart.

So in reflection to topic, the motivation to love is God as He is love. It’s really inappropriate to claim that you love God and neglect your neighbor especially when you are capable of loving them. The evidence of love is action and in every action there is sacrifice. So every time I have difficulties making sacrifices, I learned to remind myself to look on the greatest sacrifice there is and it makes me remember that at times I am “unlovable” too.

Therefore, if God loves the unlovable like myself, who am I not to love the unlovable.

Reflection 5: Blackboard Readings

The articles that influenced me the most were “Writing A Teaching Philosophy”, “A, B, C’s of Survival”, and “Child the Maker”. All of the articles were insightful but I felt I learned more about how I want to teach through these specific readings. The three articles I listed gaged areas of education I didn’t consider, such as writing a coherent philosophy that doesn’t sound “cookie-cutter”. Another aspect I analyzed more was in the article “Child the Maker”. I love seeing children be the creator, but how can I better emphasize this to the students? How do I teach the students a consistent habit of working in their sketchbook a few times a week? How will I handle violent drawings from a student? This reading was diverse in subjects and brought to light instances of education that I didn’t consider yet.

As mentioned in “A, B, C’s of Survival”, we are never done learning. As educators we must fight for our right to maintain art as an important curriculum, by bringing more diversity and outside knowledge into the classroom. This article was inspirational and motivational. The use of the alphabet also makes it easier for me to remember. This is helpful for when I am in my own teaching setting and need to evaluate myself in an unbiased opinion. Are my teaching methods effective? Am I involved in enough school activities? Do I create stimulating lessons for the students to permanently remember the material learned? Can I keep the students engaged the entire class with the use of smooth transitions? Articles that allowed me to evaluate how I wanted to teach proved to be the most helpful. I have learned plenty from these readings and plan to incorporate them throughout my teaching career.

Reflection 5 

What are podcast? Podcast can be short or a long auto recorded that is a worldwide activity that anyone can do. 

There are many different reasons why podcasting should be used with in the classroom. It can help creative a higher odder thinking with in the classroom in a creative way. Students who need extra help with in a classroom a teacher can give them extra help but giving them recordings of work. Even if the student has missed out on a class, if the teacher has a recording of their work then they can go over this during there own time. It can help the auditory learners with in the classroom.

 Introduce podcasting with in my 11 or 12 Modern History classroom these are the things that I would implement and how I would use them. 

1st)Weekly or even monthly podcast on any interesting history events that relates to the topic at in the term.

 2nd)Make a short radio stand on a history topic that the whole word can tune into . It can be of a book, movie or an interesting peace of information.

 3rd)  Get students to go into the field either around the school what other students know about certain topics or go to a history museum and students to interview historians. ( Main think is to remember to make sure they students ask if they can recorded there interviewers voice) 

4th) Get students to recorded important moments in history e.g. talking to a survivor from history. Then presenting it to the classroom or their families.

 5th) As a teacher I can send how short podcast about event that will lead up to the next class so that students will have an idea what will be going on. With this you can be creative and put in secret words to insure that students watch the podcast. So when they come to the next class, the students that have seen it know what the word is for them to gain a reward or point system.

6th) Get students to create a podcasting library that will help future students for a resource about information.

 7th) Get students to create a war match song/National Anthem, either in groups or together.  All depends on what the topic is at the present type.

 8th) Get students to create a podcast that the new history students will listen to when then enterer this classroom, what interested them? What was new? Anything that the new students may need to know. 

9th) Create a podcast that can be sent to either each other or other person in a different states or country that is learning history. Exchange information about a topic that they have learn or learn something new. Not sure if this is something that is able to do but it could be fun hearing from another country or state.

 10th)Have students reenact speech from history using a language and the vocabulary at the time of the event. Using a different langue other then English is encouraged.

  The different research that I have posted on my blog helped me come up with these 10 different ways that podcast can influence the classroom.
