In the past two days I have been repeatedly listening to a song called ‘Obsidian’ by Trevor Hall. It’s a completely captivating song that almost puts you into a trance like state when you listen to it. When I hear it, I get very reflective and it seems to ground me. I randomly googled the meaning of the word obsidian before I started my brainstorming today and found out that it was a dark volcanic rock. 

When starting my project, I went through several generic ideas, but everything always ended up leading to the same idea: Palingenesis, energy and enlightenment. 

As someone who is extremely interested in semantics and nuances of different cultural spirituality I have picked up whilst travelling and researching, this project title struck a chord with me. It will be exploring extremely personal and vulnerable aspects of my beliefs and core values.

The idea of ‘self and other’ to me explores the disparity between your physical, tangible body, and your invisible, spiritual self.

After having these realisations and reflections, I was in a hurry to return to my flat as it was pouring with rain. I tried to take a shortcut on my journey home and ended up getting lost. I found myself on a street which had a large spirituality and meditation centre by some weird twist of fate, this is only five minutes from the studios and is something that would definitely help me focus and become more creative. This was the first sign for the day that I was on the right path. On my way up Sauciehall Street I got very distracted by the sound of Native American music. I followed it and found a stand selling dream catchers, pan pipes and crystals. Whenever I buy crystals it always usually has to be something I know about, yet I was extremely drawn to a black, hexagonal stone pendant that was topped with a clear quartz orb. I bought it without thinking and upon paying the woman told me I had just bought Obsidian which is apparently very balancing for the chakras. 

This is the first time in an extremely long time that all the signs of the universe have been pointing in the same direction for me - even when I was crossing the road the green man was always on! I can tell that this pathway for my project will be very powerful and immersive for me.

An interesting video that shows some of the aspects of my work, I really love the freedom and passion. The idea of interconnectivity and something that a group of people can share and relate to is something I would like to take away from this.
