Flash Fic Friday: Open your Eyes
Today's prompt finally gave me an idea how to start my newest WIP idea, so thanks for this @flashfictionfridayofficial
Tagging @tabswrites @dreaminggoblin-yells @ashen-crest @theprissythumbelina @pen-of-roses @cljordan-imperium since you folks were interested in this. I bet I forgot someone.
"Come on, you two, open your eyes!" Clive's excited voice filled the carriage. Enid could feel him scooting back and forth beside her and could almost hear him grinning excitedly. "Clive, leave them alone. Today is an important day for Alya and Enid," their mother warned him. Nevertheless, he refused to be stopped. Enid opened her eyes. Sitting opposite her next to her mother was Alya, as she often did on official occasions. The bright green dress with ruffles that her mother had forced Alya into looked wrong on her in so many ways that Enid didn't even know where to begin to list them, but it was an absolute must for princesses. Especially today, when they would find out which of them would be the next queen.
"And what do you say?" Clive's question drew Enid's attention back to her older brother. In his hands were two identical pendants. Small white and pink pearls lay surrounded by tiny rubies and hung from gold chains. Enid and Alya leaned forward and carefully took the pendants from their brother's hands. "That wasn't necessary," Alya scolded him, but put the necklace on anyway. They both ignored their mother's disapproving looks. None of them understood why their mother was so disapproving of the close relationship between the three siblings, and tried at every opportunity to stop Clive in particular from looking after Alya and Enid. "We'll be there soon," their mother explained matter-of-factly, "Get ready to face the whispers of life. Clive, you stay in the carriage." "I know, mother. Only Alya and Enid are allowed in this place." It was a mystery to Enid how he could take it so calmly. Her gaze went to Alya, who was clearly trying to stab their mother with her gray eyes. Enid skillfully covered her laughter with a cough. There was only one hope: as soon as it was clear who would succeed her mother as queen, everything would hopefully change.
