Pioneer day observance for me
- gave my ancestors an offering of rasp-cranberry juice, bread, cheese, and oranges (what I have in the house basically. Struggle meal)
- read out the names of my Mormon ancestors going back to the first people to join the church in each line (to the best of my knowledge)
- acknowledged their successes and joys, as well as the harm they caused others (especially the indigenous people of Utah) and asked for help in fighting for reparations (prayed people in power would prioritize reparations, asked for guidance in doing my part)
- contemplated how overwhelmed I've been feeling lately, and how overwhelming it must have been for them to leave their homes and ways of life and well-established communities to come to Utah and try to build something new, especially for the women who had to raise kids and navigate polygamous marriages etc.
- used my Mormon Tarot Deck to ask for advice on how to manage being overwhelmed and was told basically to create a strict routine and keep to a schedule, which feels very On Brand for my family.
- read a chapter of Decolonizing Mormonism, the one by Angelo Basset, who is Navajo (Diné). Loved his description of Samuel the Lamanite as an indigenous man bravely telling the white majority of all their wrong doing and their need to repent, even though no one listens to him. I want to watch Basset's documentary "In Laman's terms" now.
- Donated 10% of my income to a local indigenous organization
