this is my hasbin self insert (when shes in hell)
and the story is that once upon a time an woman working at an archive stole OBTAINED a radio from their place of work due to the fact that her boss was going to auction it off or throw it away. Once she got home that night she placed the broken radio on her bedside table then promptly went to sleep
then.... she began to have DREAMS
gasp ik who would guess
these dream are in fact dreams from alastors human life, and he's in these dreams too! though it takes a while for them to interact, the first time they do is when Alastor is dreaming of one of his murders....
Joy (as you'll find I call this self insert) steps back in horror and breaks a twig. hearing this interference Alastor immediately looks at where the sound came from, and proceeded to STAB HER.
Woo hoo shes awake now! also what the fuck just happened.
joy loses sleep due to this as after this event anytime he sees her in one of his dreams he proceeds to kill her. which yk isn't very conductive for a good nights sleep
sooner or later Alastor gets tired of this monotony and leaves her alone in the dreams (yes ik canon al would probably just turn to torture but shhh)
they begin to become good friends, Joy later in their friendship develops a crush for Alastor and even later later in their relationship, like when joy gets to hell later, he also develops a crush
aaand badabing Bada boom you got my selfship. tumblr glitched out and deleted my last attempt at posting this so let's speedrun this
ART TIME
THAT'S THE SELFSHIP ART EVERYONE (also ik one of them is just a drawing of Alastor by himself IK AND I WANTED TO SHARE IT ANYWAY)
all mutuals welcome not just selfshippers but also this MIGHTVE been a excuse to ramble about my selfship but it's ok
for context joy (temp name for self insert) and Alastor meet up in dreams after joy steals ACQUIRES Alastors radio from their archive job, it was about to be auctioned off or thrown away or something so joy just sorta... took it?
on more than one occasion joy has fallen from trees during dreams due to climbing them while Alastor is burying a body/feeding it to a alligator (cant figure out which disposal method I like more)
joy, while a decent dance partner, has stepped on Alastors feet, it happens so often that when it does happen he just takes an agitated breath in before continuing
speaking of when Alastor is being an asshole while dancing joy makes it a point to step on his toes as a way to repremand him
joy didn't know how to dance swing until they asked Alastor to teach them. it took Alastor being in a rather agreeable mood for him to say yes.
joy can dance in dreams, but not in real life. they stumble on their feet everytime
sometimes Alastor makes joy drag the body to the disposal area while he just walks in front of them whistling a tune, doesn't happen often because he feels rather nostalgic when dragging a prone corpse through the Bayou.
he has pushed joy into the river in the Bayou before, to joys displeasure.
since they meet up in dreams they can conjure anything they'd like, it comes more easily to Alastor because it's his memories they're prancing through but joy can do it if they put their mind to it
joy can get mimic copies of others stuff, if Alastor is drinking something joy can reach out, grab it, and it duplicates so they can drink it
joy has poked at the dead bodies more than once.
hey don't judge it's a dead body in a dream so what if they're a bit curious
joy can tell when Alastor is omiting information/lying. but often doesn't harp on it to stay polite. though sometimes they playfully try and coax a truer response out of him, doesn't work lol
joy has poked around in the radio station Alastor worked at, pressing buttons, turning nobs, pretending to stab his producers- yk making the most out of the boring dreams
the people in Alastors memories can interact with Alastor but not joy, they're unable to touch them, speak to them, or hurt them, joy is for all intent and purposes a ghost to anyone other than Alastor in the dreams
joy feels that she and Alastor have a deeper relationship then just that of friendship (not like totally romantic tho) , but given what they know of him from memories and how he acts towards them he doesn't seem to like labels, so they consider him a really good friend but isn't sure what he considers them.
joy of course had questions about hell once her and Alastor were past the whole 'Alastor chasing her down and killing her every dream' debacle. and Alastor leaves no details left out! tells her all about what the societal structure is in hell as well as all the fun he has.
the fact Alastor is this 'radio demon' doesn't really hit joy until she herself dies and sees his 'fun' first hand
after their first big fight joy refuses to sleep for days on end, only taking small light naps
