WIP Incarnation - Summary Pending

WIP Revel and the Past - Revel lives with her aunt, and well that's normal. Except for the lack of knowledge about her family, and her aunt's aversion to it. A little mystery/urban fantasy story told in disconnected parts. The story can be found on ao3 here.

And I probably should state so people are aware that I am an adult. Just an adult who doesn't want people to steal their personal data.

Sometimes the sky is the most welcoming thing, bringing hope and new beginnings with it. There's nothing like watching the orange fade into the light blue as you sip your morning coffee, thinking about all the ways yesterday went wrong, and all the ways today will go better.

Other times in is only the beginning of the bad, and everything that comes along with it. Waking to the sky falling down and ground shaking in fear, is never a good way to start you day, and even if the day ends up being a good one, it never is. No day could ever be a good day if it is storming outside.

And then there is sitting outside watching the clear sky and the sunrise as the last of yesterday's rain evaporates into the sky. Those are the best kind of days.

The Train

Every morning at the same time the train comes down the tracks. The clack-clack of the rails, the slight hiss as the smoke rushes to escape, the waving and shouts from the people aboard the train. The train whistle blows as the train approaches and we all come running, over thirty children screaming, shouting and waving as the train comes past. Sometimes if we are lucky the conductor might throw something out the window, a ball or a piece of paper and then we all scramble to be the one who grabs it. Often the person who grabs the item doesn’t keep it, but they do get the bragging rights for catching it, and are the most popular kid in town for the next week or so. 

Sometimes a kid will try and grab onto the train, an attempt to leave the town and go somewhere else. Many of us like to theories where the train might lead. The sparkly gold at the end of the line and the slimy green monster that has to be fought to get there. And well the curiosity is what draws kids in I guess. The ones who actually managed to hold on and ride the train into the sunset don’t ever seem to come back though. The whole town able to hear the distraught cries of their parents when they find out, and that’s after the other children cheer the runaway on. 

After the first three children disappeared we were banned from the train line. Parents setting up a fence line to stop us from getting closer. Then the fence broke, the rumour was that some of the children did it overnight. So then the parents all stood there with us, hands around our arms as they held us back. Eventually though they stopped, they just gave up. They let us back to the train, back to the screaming and the shouting, though they watched us for a bit. Until they got bored of that too.

Now they just try to tell us not to. Tell us hopping on the train is bad and that we'll never return if we do. Though considering this town is in the middle of nowhere and we simply grow up to be some business's slaves, it hasn’t exactly stopped any of us from going.

And it isn't going to stop me when I finally take my chance.
