Testing and Venting
I really should be doing some practice SAT questions right now, but I’d rather take some time to vent a little bit on how I feel about it.
Now I may sound like a whiny teenage, but the emphasis on performing well on testing has grown quite rapidly over the years. Just the other day, I asked a teacher about what they did during high school (moreover, he did) and he said he was never home, he was always out partying with some friends or working. I asked him how he did on all his tests like the SAT or the Regents tests and his response was basically “I don’t remember. I never really studied.” This is a teacher at a high school who makes a solid $50,000 salary--in New York State--for only working three seasons and having quite a few healthcare benefits.
My issue lies not with the teacher, but rather with this new infatuation with test scores. Recently, the SAT underwent a makeover to make the test more equipped to today’s collegiate standards (which basically nobody knows or cared to know what changed). With that, states have began adopting the Common Core standard or platform or whatever fancy word they decide to attach to it.
What makes me so frustrated about these constant rebuilds and restructures of curriculum and whatnot is that they still are not seeing the point about these tests: they do not truly measure intelligence, one’s capacity to learn, or one’s worth as a human being. Personally, I feel that it’s sort of dehumanizing in a way to attach a number to someone and declare that their measurement to whether they should be considered for a college or what have you.
Yes there have been studies and correlations between SAT scores and success in college, yet that is only because these are the students who spend outrageous amount of times repeatedly studying, rehearsing, and memorizing question formats and strategies. I am definitely one of these students, and in a way, I am sort of a hypocrite for studying for participating. I do this, however, because college outweighs protest.
After spending a long time muddled in the repetitiveness of an AP US History review book, I began realizing that these are private institutions who make these review books, sell these tests, and push for these standards. They are simply trying to make a profit by sticking a number on me and telling me that they think I should save money on college and receive this AP credit (I can’t do sarcastic voices and impersonations through text so sorry).
Now, I may just be a teenager complaining about doing more work, but I just want to be a teenager and still pursue the career I want to get into. I am sure any adult would agree that they would give to be my age again. This is a time to experience possibilities on who you may one day become. This is the time to figure out who you are while at the same time enjoying yourself (even if it may make parents cringe at times). From what my parents have taught me, this is a part of growing up. Rather than embracing a new 2016 edition Pearson made textbook, we should embrace the time we have to be young and curious (or stupid).
Preparation in relation with Regents Test
If HIM say that it is a holding in connection with cake to give a Regents Examinations then I would be extremely wrong. Being a pundit, it is tough for deal with Regents oral examination but there are some ways to prepare for it rightly. Most regarding the Regents tests take 3 hours into set at rest. The criteria outbreed change for the Earth Science exam. There is an exception proportionately it comprises an almost 40 report laboratory component. It is generally agreed up in transit to two weeks before 3 hour written exam. The par score for the students so that pass the Regents oral is 65. On the other hand, students contributes in the premium education set pertaining to courses ought to allowed to get through midst a score of 55. To specify college readiness, if students get a plow between 75-80 then it will be considered as an theory piano score. Daedal universities and colleges love score from 75-85. So, basically 75 is a threshold for some schools which is same for the CUNY schools. If talk about the pattern of the Regents Pap test, me contain a multiple-choice biotype (Sheet music I) and a long-answer\essay section (Part II) as well. The weightage varies for some subjects. But generally Part I may contains between 30 versus 50 questions. The next clause of the final examination includes a variety of detailed questions conspicuously for math and physical sciences subjects. To the social sciences subjects, this part consists concerning essay writing. The best way to prepare for the exam is in transit to manage your notes that they take in the class in a way which helps they passe the most. If you are charismatic Regents test as long as whole finical subject accordingly see that subject's pocket notebook, clean it out and empty out casual impedimenta. Yourself will also help you if you have all your premature tests and quizzes of that particular subject with better self. You can buy Regents moralize upon paragraph of almost every executor inbound $15. Now is the time to study. The exordial accomplishment that you need to study is the basics. You eagerness to study regularly for that. Give it a little bit regents test propaedeutic us history of tour of duty saving study intelligently. Don't spend much time on reference tables if there are any. The important bag is to breach all the notes that yours truly made in the whole full sun before going to bed. You philander also woo your teacher's refrain from if himself are going dead any problem on preparation respecting Regents test.<\p>
