The ball came down, bonking them on the head.

The team watched them for a second before Suga stepped forward.

“Tobio? Are you little right now?” He asked softly.

The younger teen wanted to protest, say they were just a little off their game but their voice was already gone so silently they shook their head at him.

“Tobio. It’s not nice to lie to your big brother.” Daichi scolded lightly, taking his place next to Suga. “If you’re feeling little you need to tell us.”

They nodded, headspace slipping even younger by the second.

“Ok. I want you to go sit down near coach with Volley and you are going to take a nap. We can’t risk you getting hurt little one.” Daichi and Suga where guiding them over the wall by the door, where Volley was obediently waiting for his owner.

Suga was clearly trying to fight off his big brother headspace just a little longer, already a little protective as he turned to Daichi with authority.

“You go get their hoodie, stuffie and paci, I’ll wait with them.” He instructed, the captain nodding at him.

“Oh no, do we have a little Kages on our hands?” Ukai hummed with amusement.

Tobio nodded at him, blinking blearily up at the blond as their thumb found a way into their mouth.

“Baby Kages.” Suga corrected, his voice already sounding a little more childlike than before.

“My mistake.” Ukai chuckled lightly as Daichi returned.

“Arms up!” The captain cheered, Tobio raising their arms as their pride hoodie was pulled over them. It was large and soft, acting more as a wearable blanket than a hoodie.

Kyebear was being placed in their arms next before Suga popped their paci into their mouth.

“Ok Tobio, you take a rest and we’ll wake you when practice is over.” They nodded blankly at Daichi, leaning back against the wall to rest.

The two third years jogged back into the court, returning to their drills as Tobio silently cracked one eye open.

Ukai pretended he didn’t see it, continuing on with his coaching and making sure to keep Suga in task.

They all wanted them to nap, but if Tobio couldn’t practice, they at least wanted to watch.

Little Suga and CG Oikawa

“Suga sweetheart, what have you got there?” Oikawa asked softly, watching the regressor grip his toy bunny tightly.

“It’s mine!” He hissed, hiding it against his chest.

“I know darling I bought him for you.” Oikawa reached out to brush a few stray hairs out of his littles face. “I’m not going to take him away from you.”

Suga seemed to loosen up a little with the reminder, sticking his thumb in his mouth with non commital grunt.

“It’s name is Persy.”

“Wow, Persy is very colourful isn’t he.”

Suga twisted away from his caregiver again, causing Oikawa to sigh lightly.

“Suga, honey. I know you’re upset about what happened but it wasn’t your fault. Tobio gets upset sometimes and it’s nobody’s fault ok? You didn’t do anything wrong.”

“But baby Tobio cried!”

“Yea I know. And that’s why Iwa-chan is taking care of them. You know you can trust Iwa-chan right?”

Suga gave another non commital grunt, clearly not truly believing Oikawa.

“Oh sweetheart. I know it’s hard. I know you want to take care of them. But you have to remember to take care of yourself too. I get it. Iwa-chan tells me off all the time.” Oikawa sighed as he sat cross legged on the floor beside his little. “Now bunny do you want some cuddles and a nap? You said before you didn’t sleep while last night.”

“Mm want baby Tobio to get betta!” Tears quickly spilled over as Suga wrapped his arms around Persy and wailed. “M a terrible big brother!”

“Oh bun. Hey come here.” Suga crawled into his caregivers lap, still sobbing as Oikawa pulled him into his chest. “It’s ok. Have a big cry. Let it all out. I’ve got you little one.”

As the crying began to quiet, Oikawa gently stroked the littles grey hair with a light hum.

“You’re an amazing big brother Suga. To Tobio, to Toshi and to Kentarou. You always keep them safe and they all love you very much my little cuddle bun.”

“Just a bub.” Suga announced, placing a blanket over a very VERY tried Ushijima.

The little looked back at his older brother, eyes dropping as he dully sucked on his paci, arms wound around his Highland stuffie.

“Babies need naps Toshi.” Suga nodded as he smoothed out the blanket.

“Suga? What are you up to in here?” Oikawa’s voice sounded from the bedroom door.

Suga froze. Technically he was supposed to go find his caregiver if the others slipped, especially given how crying was a massive trigger for the grey haired little.

“Mmm.” He shuffled around on his feet. “Toshi’s small. An a know m spost to get you but He’s was really upset so I got him in bed.”

“Aw Ko. I appreciate that, you’re being a really good big brother,” Oikawa praised. “But does Toshi have his sleeping pullups on? And did you give him his bed time milk?”

“Ah- no...” Suga dropped his head lower, eyes trained to his feet as he clearly tried to hold back his tears of disappointment.

Oh. Now Oikawa felt bad.

“Hey hey Ko. It’s ok. You didn’t know. But you did such a good job. I’ll tell you what, if you go finish giving Tobio their bottle, I’ll get Toshi ready for real and then you can tuck them both in, how does that sound?”

“Mm can kiss em goo’night? Like you do?”

“Of course! You’re my big boy! You can always help take care of your baby siblings but- just let me know first ok?” Oikawa hummed, reaching out to tap his finger tips against Suga’s, their form of a hug when little.

“Okay.” Suga nodded enthusiastically as he took a step towards the door. “Where’s puppy Ken?”

“Kyotani is spending the night with Yahaba. He’s safe, Ko, I promise.”

With a quick nod the little scampered out of the room, excited to help with his baby siblings bed time routine.

Oikawa gave a soft smile to himself, eyes falling to the already asleep Ushijima in his bed.

Did he really have to wake him up again...

Icky medicine

Suga stood in front of Kageyama and Ushijima, barricading the two babies away from Oikawa and his bottle of horrible medicine.

Distantly Oikawa was glad that Kyoutani wasn’t also home. He could be worse than Suga when it came to ‘protecting’ his little siblings.

“It’s yucky and they don’t like it!” Suga hissed, arms spread out either side to cover his little siblings. “I won’t let you!”

“Suga, sweetie, Tobio and Toshi need to take some medicine to make them feel better. You don’t want them to have a tummy ache to you?”

“No... but it’s yucky and it makes them cry!” Suga narrowed his eyes at the older setter, huffing indignantly at his caregiver. “Won’t let you make them cry!”

“Suga. Tobio and Toshi are sick. It’s just a spoonful and then I have warm milk and juice to take away the taste.” Oikawa stopped, arms falling to his sides with a sigh. “How about if you let me give them their medicine, I’ll let you give Tobio their bottle and Toshi his sippy cup? And you can take care of them?”

Suga’s expression never faltered but it was clear he was chewing on his options.

“You promise they won’t cry?” He finally spoke, lowering his arms a little.

“They might make a funny face but if you give them their treat right after, you’ll make them very happy Suga.” Oikawa bargained with a soft tone.

He watched the grey haired regressor look down at the floor before turning to his little siblings, Tobio blinking blankly at him for a second.

“Ok...” Suga grumbled. “But you’ll stop if they cry?”

“I’ll stop if they get too upset.” Oikawa nodded. “If you go run into the kitchen and gab their bottle and sippycup, I’ll be ready when you get back.”

Kyotani is probably there too but is, like, sleeping on the floor or something with Volley. (On a pillow pile obviously bc Oikawa is not going to let him sleep on the wooden floor)

Little Kageyama and CG Daichi

“I’ve got you. I’ve got you little one. It’s ok.” Daichi hushed, pulling the first year into a tight hug, applying as much pressure as possible.

He remembered that from the notes Oikawa had sent him.

Tobios wails were still inconsolable, balled fists scrubbing their eyes as Daichi pulled them against his chest.

“I’m right here. Right here baby. Hush.”

He was glad Asahi had taken Suga outside. He was a terrifying older brother when Tobio was upset.

Volley was nosing his owner, trying to bring their attention back to either him or Daichi.

“I need you take in a deep breath sweetheart.” Daichi soothed. “Big breath in. Big breath out.”

A chocking and stuttering breath jumped from the little, their hands gripping into the back of Daichis practice shirt.

“Slower darling. Slower.”

As the youngers breaths came back to a more normal rate, they slowly began to sit up a little more, still occasionally stuttering out a sob in the process.

“Hey baby.” Daichi hummed. “I’m gonna walk you and Suga home ok? No more practice for today. I’m sorry it was too much.”

Tobio clearly wasn’t hearing him, wide, wet eyes staring at his nose instead of his eyes.

A shaking hand let go of the olders shirt, bringing it around to press the tip of their finger against Daichis nose.

Daichi blinked, a little startled, as the little stared back at him, occasionally hiccuping around a stray sob.

Carefully and slowly, Daichi mirrored their movement, poking them on the top of their nose back.

Tobio erupted into a fit of giggles, squirming around the captains lap as if they where being tickled.

Volley nosed his head between them, leaning back on his owner, who slowly bought their hand down to pat the dog on top of his head.

“You ready to go home now sweetheart?”

Tobio nodded distantly at him, eyes now focused down on Volleys fur and the pull strap of his harness.

“Does baby need to be carried?”

The way Tobio clung back onto him was confirmation enough, so Daichi forced himself up, the little still gripping onto him in a koala hug.

He grabbed Volleys lead, other hand propping up Tobio just under their thighs.

“Then let’s go grab your brother little one.”

Bed time

Short agere scene from my foster care au. ((Also this was defo inspired by the drawing I did the other day lol))

He could feel Suga shuffling his feet around behind him but the grey haired teen was already asleep, little rainbow bunny stuffie in his grip.

Tobio had their knees bought up to their chest, curled around their little grey bear.

Ushijima yawned against his shoulder, dipping his head down to rest against the smaller teen.

“Shh it’s ok baby. Just sleep.” He cooed, hands softly rubbing circles against his old Sejioh jacket.

In his peripheral vision he could see Kyotani curled up against Tobios service dog, Volley, the two fast asleep.

Oikawa turned his head to the side, careful not to disturb the finally asleep Ushijima, when he heard his door creek open.

“Hey Iwa.” He whispered. “Everyone’s asleep.”

He carefully lay Ushijima down, tucking his Highland bull stuffie into his arms before tip toeing over Kyotani and Volley towards his boyfriend.

“You feeling ok? I know sometimes they knock you around a bit, especially all four at once.” Iwa looked concerned but Oikawa just shook his head lightly.

“It’s fine.” He started before going off on his little tangents. “I’m really proud because Suga actually came up and asked if he could nap in my room, and Tobio fell asleep really quickly and didn’t even cry. They were really calm about being on a bed this time. And Ushij just wanted cuddles and the Kyotani stuck his head in the door and came sat on the spare blanket pile with Volley.”

“No crying huh? That’s a first.” Iwa hummed before pulling the brunet into a tight hug.

“I’m really happy with how far all of them have come.” Oikawa hummed into his boyfriends shoulder as he hugged back.

“Hey you’ve come a really long way too.” Iwa smiled as he pulled back, only to shoot forward into another tight hug. “I’m so proud of you Tooru.”

Ushijima was standing in front of him, head down as if he was little and embarrassed. His hands where tucked behind his back, Kyotani’s fingers curled around his bicep as the blond peaked around him.

Suga and Kageyama bracketed either side of him, both also looking down.

Was something wrong? Had all four of them slipped into a little headspace? Was something broken?

No one was crying and there were not any visible injuries, had they had a fight?

Oikawa’s brain was running into overdrive, starting to worry about his littles.

Should he call Iwa? Should he-

“Oikawa. We- uh we wanted to say something.” Ushijima spoke, carefully and quiet but definitely not little.

Say something? Had he done something wrong? Had he made one of them upset?

He nodded dully, trying to catch any of their eyes to get a feel for the situation.

“We appreciate what you do for us, given our... circumstances. We never asked you, you just took on the role with no fuss and you do an amazing job.”

He was waiting for a but.

“Even though we can be difficult.” Suga admitted quietly.

“And argumentative.” Kyotani mumbled, looking away embarrassed.

“But you never complain, despite everything.” Kageyama finished, head still low.

“So, we- ah, all pitched in.” Ushijima bought his hands around, giant fingers curled around a pig stuffie that he held out in front of him. “And Tendou and Yahaba helped too.”

Oh god he was going to cry.

Carefully he reached out, taking the soft toy in his grasp. He was very soft, brand new even.

“It’s just-“

“We really appreciate you.” The four of them chorused.

That’s it. Oikawa was crying as he pulled all four of them into a hug, blubbering thank you’s.
