Whenever I watch character compilations especially for older fandoms on yt I can’t help but think what 13yo with unlimited internet access be cooking like this
Consistency
Immediately following my prior post, I made a monthly calendar reminder: write. I simply have not been consistent.
Since childhood, I have semi-semi-regularly journaled. What do I mean by the redundant “semi”? I wrote from time to time, but not always. I’ve had gaps. At times lasting for years. So in that sense, I have maintained some consistency. And truthfully, there were times when I had more dedication and willpower to put pen to paper - and at those times I actually used pen and paper - than I currently do.
That said, I almost didn’t write tonight. The thoughts passed through my mind more than once. Despite this temptation to lounge on a Sunday, all day, with little to show for my time, I’m writing.
Over the past month, I’ve read two books: Stuff I Wish I Knew Earlier and The Five Dysfunctions of a Team. The later inspired me to at last put my money to work for me, investing in index funds. Moreover, the book helped me to permanently memorize all 22 of the Canadian Prime Ministers - in less than an hour. The Five Dysfunctions of a Team has cast light on many of the issues that the company I currently work for is experiencing.
Ultimately, the most significant problem we have comes down to one thing: lack of setting goals for EVERY department, and holding each department head accountable. Our leadership has been laissez-faire for so long, this mindset has been embedded into the heart of the company’s culture. Lately, I’ve been feeling more and more uneasy about what has been going on, and I know that I must put an end to it. I started by pushing one of the heads to take steps towards developing his team earlier this week. I’m also challenging every other leader to rethink the way they run their departments. It’s caused quite a few sparks so far, but I don’t plan on backing down anytime soon. It’s sad to see so much potential lost to such a great bunch of hardworking, smart people.
I’m determined. I am committing myself here and now to develop my team - including our manager, the president. It will be tough, but I will persevere. I will consistently push the envelope month over month.
This blog is my accountability. I don’t have any at work, so this is it. Do or die.
