MOODBOARD #58 ;; HENRY & CATHERINE / LION AND THE FLORENTINE
‘ i can feel you in my veins. ’
“I have something to tell you.” Francis murmured, looking up at Catherine from where he stood by his son. He'd barely left the nursery since he'd been born, not quite ready to leave him in the hands of anyone else. “Mary and I decided on a name for him. And I hope you'll approve.”
It hadn't taken them long to come to their decision in the end, a few murmured conversations and they had decided. He moved to stand beside Catherine and nudged lightly against her. “It seems only fitting that he should be named Henry. Wouldn't you agree?” He asked, a wide smile pulling on his lips.

*puts some flowers into his boots so his feet smell nice tbh*
What if the flowers tickle his feet mid-combat? He might die, Lina, this is serious business.

❝ Am I to wait until the war is done to tell my wife I love her? ❞
My dearest Lina, you’re getting some love that is so long overdue.
“I shouldn’t have favorites.” Catherine said it once and so will I here now. We say shouldn’t, but both of us clearly have one— and you are mine around these here parts. I’ll say it truthfully without single doubt or remorse in my heart, because it’s true. We all have favorites, even when we say we shouldn’t or don’t, as it’s in our nature as human beings to have and know preference, but there is one thing about me and that is that I never take my preferences or favorites lightly. I think that’s something your muse and I have in common. Now I’m saying this, because I’m not entirely sure that you’re aware of my gratitude towards you, nor do I think you know what you represent for me. So I’m going to inform you, or, if you think that you’re already aware somehow, I’m going to publicly remind you, because everyone should know how much I adore you and most importantly, why I adore you. So here, I’ll start with the biggest truth of them all:
This blog for Francis wouldn’t be here today if I’d never come across you. I mean it, I wouldn’t have started writing him if you and your Catherine hadn’t been around. For a year, I’ve seen you on Ezio’s dashboard, writing Catherine de’ Medici with such beautiful joy in your heart and this never-ending dedication and belief in everything you write for her. It’s almost divine, you know, that ever so utterly visible respect that you have for her, and there are days where I can barely comprehend its intensity, but it puts me in a state of awe and it inspires me more than almost anything else has on Tumblr in recent years. Remember that post I made, about how much weight there is on one’s shoulders to do justice to someone who’s drawn breath from the same air as us? It’s an immense responsibility and you do not take that burden lightly at all, I can tell that you don’t, and you’ve told me that you don’t. But to see it, to see you take this as seriously as you do with such delight, is nothing short of absolutely incredible to me. You set an example, Lina, you set a standard that I, and surely many others, thrive to attain on a daily basis. And I wholly adore you for it. You approach her with a protective heart and an absolutely understanding mind that erases no wrongs, you approach her not as a mere muse but as a human being. You approach Catherine de’ Medici with the care and caution she so deserves, and you should be so very proud of that. You shouldn’t be anything but incredibly proud of that.
You are why my Francis is here today. There have surely been numerous beautiful writers for Francis in the past, as I know that there still are now, but I was and am selfish here and I’ll admit it: I would’ve made him regardless of any other writer currently writing him. Not because I didn’t feel as though they didn’t do him justice, or because the love I bear him spans too far and wide, but because I wanted to write him with your Catherine. Because I couldn’t imagine a more magnificent writer for her to write him alongside of. And my sole hope, I’ve said this before, is that I might, one day, be able to do right by him as much as I see you do right by her every day. Because if I could, I would see that as a highlight of my writing passion and career. You know, some are intimidated by the ones they admire, which unfortunately keeps them at a distance, and I used to be someone who did that. But now, I find no greater gift as a writer, than to share my passion with the people who make me want to be better. And you, my dear, make me want to be and do better. If my Francis is still here in a year from now, rest assured that you’ll be the major reason as to why he will be.

❝ I am NOT playing any games. ❞
The words left her mouth before she can think & Nicole bit her lips. this is the queen mother, the regent, and she cannot forget her place. Breathing deeply, she slowly shook her head. ❝ Your majesty, I swear I am not. ❞ How could she explain the way she feels? It was too complicated.
❝ I care for Charles, I love him. ❞ She loved him for seeing something in her, for not caring about her origins. He was the one who had brought her to court, the one who had showed her she was so much more than just a farm girl. & yet...
❝ But I am in love with Henri. ❞
Her feelings were genuine. She LOVED him with all her heart & soul even though she should not. She was the king’s mistress, after all. The mistress of a king who was not mentally stable. And there was also the fact that she was afraid of hurting Charles. He who had always been so gentle & thoughtful with her.
❝ I wish things were different, I do. I wish we were able to choose the ones for whom our heart beats. However, it is not possible. I do not wish to hurt Charles. This was NEVER my intention. ❞
“I do not know how to be king. I have known my whole life that I am the next heir and yet I am still not prepared for this.” He could feel the guilt pressing down on him. He had all but stolen the crown from his father but he could only pray that his actions would be forgiven. He had done it to protect Mary, not so he could have the crown. “He has only just died and they are already saying long live the king. It feels wrong, maman.” A part of him had thought to leave his mother alone once the news of Henry’s death had been announced and perhaps it was sheer selfishness that took him to her but he was there, sat in one of the chairs near the fireplace.
