With the help of many local community members and nature practitioners nearly 30+ native plants have returned home. While introducing native plants to the local community, we also bring awareness of the historical context and implications. Genocide of both native people and the native ecology occurred on these lands and it is still important that we seek healing while those traumas have progressed generationally. Especially for us who have been taught a lie that our ancestors were “uncivilized”, we can find rootedness 🌱 in our relations with the land. Western habits and lifestyles don’t respect the land. From city light pollution that confuses animals to paving roads that remove vital plants and trees, we are struggling to survive within a system whose ways are degrading to the planet, to animals, and to people. We are here to build relations that will nurture continuous life. That means reimagining everything. That means realizing our own habits. The best defense is a good offense... but in the sense that the best way to free our people from oppressive systems is to aggressively support our own systems and pour our resources into our own people. It is undeniable that much of capitalism's power comes from an abundance of resources being poured into an equally abundant range of extractive, harmful methodologies and technologies, the resources of dispossessed victims are then used to continue feeding the same extractive machine. The best way to take down harmful systems is to actively create new methodologies from relational ontologies, new sustainable technologies and expand alternative, sustainable systems.

Reclaim. Redirect. Reindigenize.

I'll never take for granted the honor and priviledge of understanding and speaking our ancestral tongues. I love hearing relatives from all over the americas speak creole/criollo, kimbundu, fon/ewe, yoruba, qechua, and being able to understand each other regardless of sometimes gigantic distances because we're all related.

More than anything I love the deep joy, teary eyed laughter kind of joy, in our Elders faces when you hit them with their own native tongue instead of spanish, french, portuguese or english. When they realize that they can be fully themselves with you, not through the colonizer's strained words, fully ourselves. That it's safe. That you understand them. That you're carrying the culture forward with them. "Sometimes all we need is to be heard" but oh, it's not just that is it? to be understood in full depth?
