With the help of many local community members and nature practitioners nearly 30+ native plants have returned home. While introducing native plants to the local community, we also bring awareness of the historical context and implications. Genocide of both native people and the native ecology occurred on these lands and it is still important that we seek healing while those traumas have progressed generationally. Especially for us who have been taught a lie that our ancestors were “uncivilized”, we can find rootedness 🌱 in our relations with the land. Western habits and lifestyles don’t respect the land. From city light pollution that confuses animals to paving roads that remove vital plants and trees, we are struggling to survive within a system whose ways are degrading to the planet, to animals, and to people. We are here to build relations that will nurture continuous life. That means reimagining everything. That means realizing our own habits. I love how @cornymexican took these awesome pictures of our myco-art, our Reishi and the beautiful process of making medicinal #Reishi extract last year when I was hosted by @mama_maiz at @flora_y_tierra ! So grateful for these connections and friendships. Later that year both of these incredible humans ventured East to spend a weekend with us at the first ever @newmoonmycologysummit Weaving, myceliating, building community and solidarity networks coast to coast. I’m in awe. I’m so happy to announce I’ll be returning NEXT WEEK to be hosted by both of these incredible people. Created in 2013 this board was originally a backer for an end cap in which I incorporated the city’s logo (which I mistook for it’s seal) with the company’s own ‘seal of approval’ promised offerings to customers. Originally Tongva Land (“Hotuuk”), is now known as Santa Ana (a name given to it by Friar Junipero Serra in 1769). The land would exchange hands many times until it was finally purchased by Ketuckian farmer William H. Spurgeon in 1869. The land became incorporated as a city in 1886 with a population of 2000. In 1889 the former Greater Los Angeles city would become the seat of newly formed Orange County. It is the 57th most populated city in the United States, and shares its current name with the local freeways, mountains, and even seasonal winds. This board was made originally to celebrate the city, and was based off the current logo, and lived outside the Traders Joe’s Santa Ana location from January 8th, 2010 until February 9th 2014, when it was replaced by a more sustainable replica (aka all paint no chalk this time).
