Rekka Graffiti

Graffiti is all about cycles of writing. Whether that be because of the authorities buffering off art or another writer spraying over your work with something better, there's a constant drive to improve and respray areas. The exception to this rule is a piece that you can't paint over with something better or something that has history to it, whether that be because of significance gained with age or the artist that sprayed it. Rekka's 2DMV art has a few interesting graffiti tidbits.

Off to the right of the Rekka art is a spray that appears to be a homage to Nagi. It's missing the "i" from "Nagi", but it's pretty obvious that it's meant to be Nagi with the N, A, and G in a white instead of black. Plus, the colors and flowers at the edges of the piece remind me very strongly of the Gekokujo set, when An is told that Nagi is dead.

In graffiti culture, the crown is something that is used as a symbol of a graffiti legend's piece or tag, something that is generally frowned upon for self-use by amateurs. It's a little displaced by the window(?) above the spray, but there's a crown above NAG. Nagi would definitely have earned the crown for her role in RAD WEEKEND and her presence on Vivid Street, so the crown makes complete sense. The fact that the bottom part of the crown above NAG looks like a halo, however, is an obvious reference to Nagi's dead status.

There's a lot of respect towards dead graffiti artists in graffiti culture. Graffiti is all about getting your art out there, and the biggest obstacles to that are the authorities buffing off walls, jail, and death. Considering Vivid Street is covered in graffiti, and it's a staple of the community, those first two are pretty much off the table.

With RAD WEEKEND as a tribute for Nagi's death to cover the main source of Vivid Street's beating heart, it was inevitable that there would be tribute graffiti.

One of the main rules of graffiti is that you don't spray over or vertically above another person's work unless you want to start a fight or your piece is more complicated/intricate/has more effort put in it than theirs. Above Kohane is a piece that, from what little I can see of it, looks like Vivid BAD SQUAD sprayed over RADDER or RAD WEEKEND. Spraying over it with their group name is a declaration of superiority, likely of their goal of surpassing RAD WEEKEND or foreshadowing how close they were to doing so.

Bonus Details:

There's a tag that says "HOPE!" underneath the maNAGe piece. How dramatically ironic. Forgive the shakiness, I'm doing this on trackpad.

For me, there's no specific basis to me of what a VBS/character comm should sound like and I don't really have a criteria for that other than the song should be truly expressing their feelings and that's what's most important about comms! I remember how people complained about rekka being too 'underwhelming' for the event, but for me, paying attention to the lyrics, mv, and the singing really makes you understand how much it actually reflects Anchan's feelings more than anything. The song wasn't about only the battle Anchan had with Kohane, but also about Anchan's feelings towards Kohane. I wouldn't really expect something super overwhelming, because if anything, Anchan was moreso desperate rather than angry if you know what I mean? Because no matter how frustrated she feels, she can never actually hold anything against Kohane. Like sure she wanted to win, but she understood that they were always in equal grounds! Sometimes she'll win, sometimes Kohane will, and they both push each other to their limits and drag the 'ugly feelings' out of each other, because she realized that's what partners were for. And if anything, for me, a feeling like that wouldn't really make a super intense song, but rather a more meaningful one. The sunmoon symbolisms were sooooo good and the lyrics are really fun to analyze in-depth and her alt was amazing!!!
