Hi-Fi Rush (2023)
So uhhhhh very few pages of the Hi-Fi Rush artbook have been revealed (a couple of people have either flicked through the book or showed a page or two) and that includes Kale's page.
I thought drawing him wearing one of those concept fits (or at least how I interpreted it) would be neat ^^
I'll put the full page that's been shared in the Read More section if you guys are curious :D
Okay, so. We know what Chai's handwriting looks like, canonically, thanks to his Project Armstrong paperwork:
Very painstakingly-formed letters, lots of goofy dramatic flourishes, but still distinctly wobbly, with inconsistent angles on the vertical strokes. (It definitely supports the fandom theory that he had to re-learn to write with his left hand, a bit awkwardly, after he lost the use of his dominant right arm.)
And we have lots of samples of Peppermint's handwriting, from the journals scattered around the hideout and the note she left for Kale:
Simple, straightforward block printing. Pretty easy to read, though it goes a bit chickenscratch when she's taking notes in a hurry.
But I've spent way too much time looking at the assets for the hideout, and I find it extremely funny that at least one of the equations in her notebooks is written in what looks like Chai's handwriting. Check it out:
Look at that "t", especially. That's...totally Chai's handwriting??
I know the real-life explanation is probably that it's random scribbles on a minor background prop, and Tango didn't bother to keep close track of which asset artist was writing what, but. It still amuses me to imagine Chai casually adding his own calculations to Peppermint's notes, like:
"Six plus six equals twelve, Peppermint. I can do the math, I'm not dumb..."
(Grabs her mission report book, scribbles down a random calculus equation from memory, solves it, and hands it back to her.)
"See?"
(Belatedly notices that everybody in the hideout is struck silent and staring at him in disbelief.)
"........ What? Like it's hard?"
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
we also need to add tuxedo mask to the mix too, particularly tuxedo mask in crystal bc he's a LOT more romantic in that version meanwhile chai is ragebaiter 3000
no good clips online of crystal (someone feel free to correct me once again for not finding a video lol) so I'm just straight up watching crystal now
cnmn sketches for my mental health
I read ur post about someone editing a compilation of Robbie Daymond's multiple edgy and emo ass roles as opposed to Chai so may I direct anyone reading this post to look up Id Granblue Fantasy voicelines and then pull up any clip of Chai yapping bc holy FUCK the contrast is taking me out
Dude at this point I'm just convinced Tango sought out Robbie Daymond specifically because they knew how funny it would be to have Mr. EgdyEmo play their dorkass protagonist 😭
More doodles of them love bugs
Hey I just realized I haven't bothered to follow anyone in the hfr community cuz I'm a fool so catch me mass following everyone real quick
I'm making a hi fi rush spinoff comic that is set between the events of hi fi rush and hi fi rush 2 (probably) but features new different characters and setting outside vandelay island.
It features 18 year old amnesiac girl Aoki (Emi Lo/Aoi Yuki) who is tasked to search for the history of the Kimura Clan around the nefarious Division Order Department while also fighting other enemies.
Ohhhh sounds interesting!! The game was very good at setting up some serious potential for the world building outside of Vandelay Campus so I'd love to see what you do! I wish you luck in your endeavor, and remember to take your time with it, don't stress!
I can't lie, I think the literal only reason I don't ship Peppermint and Chai is because I'm more into the power of friendship. I still think they're the most important relationship in each other's lives and that they have a deep emotional bond, I just prefer seeing that in platonic circumstances. Everyone get more aromantic
Also while I'm here might as well elaborate on "narrative foils" because that is so damn vague. What I meant by that is
Every boss mirrors some aspect of Chai.
QA-1MIL is single minded focus. Chai wants to be a rockstar. That's it. Everything else, including the mission, takes a backseat, if it takes a seat at all.
Rekka is arrogance. Chai and Rekka both prop themselves up with voices feeding their own ego (Rekka's Hype Man, the Announcer), without much care for if they've actually earned it.
Zanzo is cleverness. Chai isn't stupid, we see him have good ideas all the time, (it's here that he comes up with the parry on his own, after all.) They just get buried in the traits shown above, just as Zanzo's own cleverness gets lost in his perfectionism and inability to compromise.
Korsica is very specific, but she's going along with something with little thought into what they're actually doing. It takes Chai until halfway through Track 1 to ask what Peppermint's goals and name even are. Similarly, it takes Chai yelling at Korsica for her to even consider something is wrong with SPECTRA.
Mimosa is attention seeking. This is my most firm because it's the most obvious. Their fight is literally a battle for attention on a stage in front of a massive crowd.
Roquefort is loyalty. This one is the shakiest, but I still believe in it. Roquefort is deeply loyal to Kale after he saved his life, willing to do just about anything in the CEO's name. Similarly, the rest of the TEAm gave Chai things he never even dreamed of (friends), leading him to keep going despite all he suffers.
And Kale is laziness and apathy. At the start, neither of them wanted to put in the hard work. They both wanted work-arounds. But when Kale was shown adversity, he simply gave up.
the demily curse placed on me once again. notifs won't stop blowing up
I couldnt not draw this
Peppermint is having a baby. ( Chai is the dad.)
D0C-TR units everywhere concerned over the cat ears and tail shown in the ultrasound. The lucky parents were heard saying that "808 would be a lovely name"
heeeells yeah
Replaying Hi Fi Rush and i forgot how deep the levels of this game are. They reward you for exploring the whole level throughoutly so hard, hiding stuff everywhere. And its not just collectibles, sometimes it's a background joke that's really smartly implemented, post game content, or just a robot that you can talk to. The game has sugh a deep sense of a world that other people have been on before. And the setting are beautiful. It's such a deeply interesting game to just look at. God i love this game
