Turning Red is so offensive you guys. How dare they mention periods in front of children?
Children should never know about periods.
They should just have a panic attack in the middle of the night when they suddenly start bleeding and experiencing horrible cramps, thinking they have some terrible disease and are about to die!
“But kids don’t get periods” Yes... yes they do.
I got mine at 11. The school sure as heck didn’t warn me. (I think my mom kinda did... I was at least somewhat aware of it.)
And honestly hiding it behind the metaphor of turning into a giant red panda was kinda cute and clever since...well making an entire movie about a kid bleeding and being moody wouldn’t be very fun, while also mentioning the actual periods so that kids know its a normal thing that almost every young girl goes through (and transmen and AFAB nonbinaries). That way the next 11-year old doesn’t have to hide in the bathroom crying about how something is horribly wrong.
#i’m buffy except it’s 2020 not 1999
Danny: “I’ve just got bills. Want to hit the change machine?”
Suds: “No! You’ll kill me!”
Creed: “It keeps spitting it back out. I hate these things.”
Danny: “You try putting the bill in the other way?”
Creed: “Of course I--”
Suds: “Okay! Okay! I’ll talk.”
