Folklore & Collage Residency at the Knoxville Museum of Art

EARLY DEADLINE: Sunday, 29 January 2023. Folklore & Collage Residency: Knoxville is an in-person residency at the Knoxville Museum of Art in Tennessee, centered on collage artists who want to incorporate history and folklore into their artist practice. Residents will make artwork for an exhibition and book. We will hear from guest artists, local artists, folklore specialists and faculty, who will make presentations about place in art and strategies for incorporating folklore into one’s practice. The Residency takes place Sunday, 19 March to Thursday, 23 March 2023. Designed for collage artists, professional development sessions focus on artist practice: topics include Collage Theory; Sourcing Materials, Copyright, Appropriation; Developing Materials; Collaboration; and Collage in Presentation. PANDORA’S BOX: This chest is filled with secrets, creepy crawlies, magical talismans, baubles, spells, spirits, poisons, potions, amulets, demons, dark and deadly items.

THE TOMB: This chest is filled with treasures, artifacts, maps, codes, ancient relics, weapons, items for the afterlife, lore, and relics from days gone by.

About once a year, Light Grey hosts a themed call for artists where each artist makes an edition of a work. Once at the gallery, we distribute one of each artist’s work into amazing packages containing ONE OF EACH OF THE ARTWORKS IN THE ENTIRE COLLECTION. Every participant gets the whole stash and gets to open a magical box full of mysterious goodies at home!!
