This is important. Please read.
Recently, my parents discovered that I read, write, watch, and reblog lgbt+ positive things. Although they did not outright insult me, they gently expressed their disappointment that I was going against the values of our church and would appreciate if I took the time to consider what I was doing online, and that the choices I made were my own and they wouldn’t hate/be rude to me either way. After some consideration, I have decided to stop writing and reblogging posts with lgbt+ relationships in them.
I came to realize how truly uncomfortable I am with such things. I have pushed aside my feelings for years, forcing myself to accept these things in order to avoid offending anyone or appearing strange. But, deep down, I knew that I didn’t support the lgbt+ community and that I was uncomfortable with what I was exposing myself to.
I am not discouraging you from loving who you love, writing what you want, or talking to me for advice/support about your sexual orientation or gender identity. Although I do not support the lgbt+ lifestyle, I still love you and support you as a person, and I support you exercising your agency (aka the ability to make your own choices). I don’t care what your gender, race, age, sexual orientation, etc is, I still love you. I still want to be friends with you. Just because I don’t reblog or write things that relate to lgbt+ topics doesn’t mean I hate you. I LOVE YOU! <3
I just want to be able to have an open and honest relationship with my parents. I don’t want to have to hide what I do from them, including my online activities. I will still reblog things that say “my blog is safe for so and so people” or “this blog is a safe zone” because those things are true. I will not hate on you. I will not bash you for who you love and do not love. I will not block you or force you to unfollow me. I will not say things against your lifestyle that make you uncomfortable. I just won’t be writing and reblogging that stuff. I will still read, like, and pm you about your lgbt+ stories, not to support the pairings, but to support your excellent writing skills and success as a young author. Feel free to still talk to me, to message me, and everything. Don’t feel uncomfortable around me. I’m still the same sweet, motherly girl (all ya’ll’s words, not mine) you all have come to know, I’m just changing certain content on my blog a little bit. Keep tagging me in your fics. Keep messaging me. Keep being my friend. Keep expressing yourselves the way you want. I can’t and won’t try to stop you, and support you in your creativity.
I hope all of you understand. I would hate to lose any of you because of this. I love each and every single one of you, no matter what.
