It's that time of year again! (colds and sniffles)
Fall! Apple and pumpkin products galore! Sweets, ciders, snuggly sweaters, and changing leaves! It's getting colder and what does that mean?
Well, that's what I call it because there's four of us at home and when one person gets sick, it's a domino effect. So far, it's just the changing season cold.
What is that? Well, the weather is hot, cold, wet, dry-- your body can't quite decide what's happening and is susceptible to catching the simple sniffles or cough. It happens often to people from Summer to Fall, and Winter to Spring. The most drastic changes in temperature and humidity.
How I avoid it: When I feel a tickle in the back of my throat, or my nose starts to run: vinegar(Apple Cider Vinegar tastes yummy to me). A sip. It clears up the phlegm/mucus in my throat by changing the ph level. The germs can't handle it, and bam. No sickness.
Note: drinking vinegar has a strong taste, you can chase it with something pleasant afterwards, food or drink. I'd say wait ten to fifteen minutes. Also, never do this on an empty stomach. The vinegar changes the ph in your throat, AND your stomach! You will feel bubbly and gross, might even throw up.
when I do get sick: I drink alot of liquids depending on how congested I am. Orange juice and water for just barely, hot tea 24-7 for can't breath/painful sickness. We keep a fully stocked selection of teas and ingredients for situations.
water: You have toxins in your body. Flush'em out!!
Orange/Lemon: vitamin C to help immunity and get back to help. Lemon also helps break down fats and salts to help lose weight.
Fruity teas: Lots of vitamins and antioxidents to jump start immunity. Yummy! Usuallu get blueberry, pomegranite, or acai.
Ginger: helps with upsets stomachs, either by settling it or calming cramping muscles. Cut a slice (no thicker than half a centimeter), crush, and place in a mug with hot water. The more you cut or crush ginger, the stronger the flavor. One slice should provide 2-3 cuts. Optional if you want it with your favorite tea or just hot water.
Cayenne pepper: sore throat/congestion. Clears it up, but does not kill bacteria or viruses that cause the issue. The correct measurements would be 1/2 teaspoon for ever cup of hot water(this stuff is spicy) and to add honey for flavor. Honey also helps with sour throats. :D
Even though this a health and natural remedies, I do advise to check with doctors, or prescribers when medications are used. (like on my last post about Potassium)
Ibuprofen/fever reducers: use them. You can use your naturals, but if a compress or shower doesn't make the fever go down, take one. They're made to reduce aches, pains, and fevers. You can get brain damage from fevers that are untreated, and die.
My house was a pill free zone for the longest time because of an over protective parental unit.
It was painful, I was delusional, I yelled at Jeopardy because I thought they were questioning my life choices. After taking a dosage, I was a normal human being.
